The forest was closing in around them, the road narrowing. They were deep in the wilderness, far from the safety of the city. No backup. No way to know how close the enemy was.
“Who the hell are they?” she muttered, stealing a glance at the men behind them.
“Someone with a death wish, Dante growled, accelerating, “But they picked the wrong fucking target.”
A burst of gunfire cracked through the night, bullets tearing into the back of their car. Elara flinched but didn’t scream. She knew better.

Elara turned to shoot back when Dante grabbed her wrist.
“Not yet,” he warned.
The car suddenly gives a sharp jerk. It swerved violently to the side, nearly spinning out of control.

“What now?” she asked, Dante tilted his head slightly, as if considering something insane.
And then he slammed the gear shift.
“Elara,” he said, eyes locked onto the road, “do you trust me?
Her pulse pounded. She didn’t hesitate.
“Yes, I do” She said loolding into his eyes.
He smirked. Good girl.
And then, he did the unthinkable.
He spun the wheel sharply, sending the car into a full–speed drift. The tyres screeched the smell of burning rubber filling the air as they twisted sideways through the empty highway. Gunfire erupted again, bullets shattering the rear windshield, and glass flying around them.
“NOW, ELARA!” Dante barked.
She didn’t need more instruction. She rolled down the window and fired. A perfect shot. One of the SUV drivers slumped over the wheel, his car spinning out of control before smashing into the railing. One down.
Dante growled in approval “That’s my wife Elara ignored the way her chest tightened at those words.
The chase continued. Five SUVs left.
Dante’s focus on driving as they were running out of road. Ahead, a bridge loomed in the distance, the dark waters below barely visible in the night.
“Danic.” Elara’s voice held a warning
“I see it,” he muttered.
The wheels barely held traction as the car veered across the bridge. One mistake and they were dead.
Elara fired another shot, hitting a second SUVs front tyre. It spun out, colliding with the car beside it. Two down

A sharp gust of air stole her breath as she plummeted, the icy water swallowing her whole. She swan out of the water to barely see Dante’s car hitting the bridge railing a full speed. But what none of them expected was the car to exploded like a fucking bomb.
“DANTE!” Her scream tore through her throat.
Her stomach dropped.
