Chapter 11 I Was Ecstatic
Since I was facing the president himself, I immediately made a
pun in Vyrelyn. Naturally, a pun was not enough to prove myself, so I downloaded a contract from the Internet and translated it for Evan on the spot. I even managed to translate the technical terms of some rare fields.
“What do you think? Do I qualify for the position?” I looked at Evan with puppy–dog eyes.
But the more I hoped for Evan to agree, the more he refused to let things go my way. He replied coldly, “Stafford Group does. not accept child labor.”
What the hell? Was he looking down on me? I straightened my body and posed seductively, showing off my figure.
“Uncle Evan, open your eyes and take a good look. Have you ever seen a child with C–cup breasts?” With the red slip dress | was wearing, my cleavage would show whenever I leaned
forward.
I even pushed them together slightly. Evan’s eyes darkened the moment they were exposed to scandalous sight.
“Julia!”
I could tell from his roar that he was angry, so I quickly backed off and muttered, “Besides, only those below 16 are called. children. I’m already 18.”
“No,” Evan heartlessly rejected me again.
I sighed inwardly. I had no one but myself to blame. It was all the past Julia’s fault for being so infatuated with Samuel. However, I believed that Evan would see that I was sincere
with time.
I pouted in disappointment. “You don’t believe I can handle this job, do you? How about this? We’ll see who gets the last laugh
after the interview.
“If I fail the interview, I’ll disappear from your sight and stop bothering you. But if I pass the interview, you must fulfill one of my requests. Deal?”
“You just won’t give up, will you?” With that, he stood up to pay
the bill.
Being tall and wearing expensive clothing, he looked extremely elegant when he moved. Although he looked cold, his handsome face still attracted many eyes.
I walked over and clung to Evan’s arm, showing all the women around that Evan was mine. Fortunately, Evan didn’t push me
away.
I asked cheerfully, “When should I go to Stafford Group
tomorrow for the interview?”
“Did I agree to interview you?”
“Didn’t you already agree to it when you said I just wouldn’t. give up? You’re no better than a dog if you go against your words,” I said like a total brat.
Ev
rolled his eyes. “Find Xavier at 9:00 a.m.”
“Alrighty!” I snickered inwardly Although Evan seemed cold and difficult to talk to, he could still be convinced with some shameless pestering.
The next morning, I secretly stole Mom’s office attire and took a cab to Stafford Group before 9:00 a.m. I was surprised to find hundreds of other people there to interview for the same
position.
They had all graduated from prestigious schools. My
qualifications were naturally inferior to theirs, so all I could do was give my all during the written and oral assessments.
Fortunately, Stafford Group cared more about a person’s capability than their qualifications, so I managed to get to the
final round.
When I introduced myself, I emphasized that I didn’t mind
working without getting paid and that I just wanted to get a part -time job. I also added that I would consider Stafford Group first when I started job–hunting after graduating college.
“You may return home and wait for our notice now. The results will be out after 2:00 p.m.,” Xavier said.
When I took a cab home, Dad coincidentally visited home with some bacon. I made up all sorts of excuses to trick Mom into coming home.
While we were having a great time together, I received a call from Xavier. “Congratulations, Julia. You passed the interview.”
“I passed! I’m so glad!” I exclaimed and bounced up and down excitedly.
I had made such a risky move. If I failed, I’d be too ashamed to see Evan again. To be honest, I wasn’t sure I would win, so I bet it all on Evan’s mercifulness.
I immediately called Evan. “Uncle Evan, I passed! Yesterday, we agreed that you’d fulfill one of my requests if I passed the interview!”
“Tell me what you want.” Evan’s voice was soft.
I gripped my phone and said excitedly, “It’s a secret. I’ll tell you once the translation work is done. Just remember to keep your promise.”
Evan hummed in agreement.
“Uncle Evan, see you tomorrow.” I was ecstatic.
If Evan showed up as my boyfriend, no matter how much. Samuel’s parents didn’t want to cancel the engagement, they would still back off because they wouldn’t dare to harass
Evan’s girlfriend.
Samuel might even have to call me his sister–in–law. Thinking about it was enough to make me laugh.
