Chapter 12
I was in a great mood tonight. During our conversation, Dad mentioned that the results of my college entrance exams were coming out in a week and asked how confident I was.
I playfully replied, “Dad, if I pass my exams, why don’t you propose to Mom again? Mom, how much do I need to score for you to get back together with Dad?”
As expected of the top official in Juville, Mom wasn’t affected at all. She replied expressionlessly, “We’re talking about your
life here.‘
It meant that my score had nothing to do with whether they would get back together. Nevertheless, I raised my chin. “I don’t care. If I score more than 1,500, both of you will get back together immediately. If I score less than 1,500, I won’t mention it again.”
Dad immediately refused. “No. If you fail-”
“Deal!” Mom rolled her eyes. “We’ll do as you say, Juju.”
She was probably sure I wouldn’t score that high since I usually scored around 1,300. I winked at Dad, who looked like he was going to cry.
Terrified that they would never get back together, he kept
asking how well I did on my exams.
“We’ll know the answer next week.”
Although Dad was innocent, I would get angry whenever I
thought about Madison. If it weren’t for Madison and Lucy, Mom and Dad wouldn’t have gotten divorced.
I didn’t even go through what Dad experienced in my previous life. How dare she forge my handwriting! I would make sure she got her just desserts.
grabbed Dad’s phone and took a group photo of the three of us looking like a happy family and posted it on his Instagram
stories.
I added some text which said, “Spending some quality time. with my family.” I was sure Madison and Lucy would be fuming when they saw it.
I needed to travel to Solvian for the translation work. Besides
visiting the site and understanding the product, both sides needed to discuss their collaboration as well, so it was estimated that we would only return after three days.
Since I was in a great mood, I slept extremely well. The next. morning, I informed my mom before my departure. Then, I put on an A–line dress and left home, dragging my pink luggage. along.
Before I could call a cab, I heard someone calling out to me.
“Julia!”
I turned to the voice and saw a black Volvo parked under a tree on the road opposite me. The driver was Xavier.
He got out of the car and waved at me, gesturing for me to sit in the passenger seat. I looked around as I walked over.
T
ugh the tinted windows, I could barely see a person’s
silhouette in the backseat. It was obviously Evan. With Evan in the backseat, there was no way was sitting in the passenger seat.
“Thank you, Xavier.” I handed my luggage to Xavier and got into the backseat.
I noticed that Evan was wearing a white dress shirt today. He looked exhausted. His laptop was placed at his side.
He was massaging his temples with one hand and yanking off his tie with the other. He looked like a bad boy in disguise while resting his eyes in that position.
Afraid of interrupting his break, I stayed as quiet as possible.
Xavier handed me breakfast after getting in the car. Looking down, I saw a peach strudel from Sugarloaf Bakery. It was still
warm.
After getting married to Samuel in my previous life, I missed eating this the most when I suffered from anorexia. So, I squealed in delight.
“Xavier, you’re the best! Thank you!”
I immediately helped myself to it and chowed down on the peach strudel like a hamster. It was delicious. I ate until I was full. With my stomach filled with food, I started feeling sleepy.
It would definitely be uncomfortable if I slept with my head leaning against the window, so I thought of an idea. Pretending
I had fallen asleep, I slowly inched my head toward Evan.
Perhaps because he was asleep, he didn’t notice me getting closer. I slowly leaned my head on his shoulder and slowly laid
my head on his lap.
The drive from Juville to Solvian took at least three hours. In
my sleep, memories of my previous life flooded my mind. When I dreamed of Samuel cheating on me with another woman right in front of me again, I was livid.
Even though I was yelling furiously in my dream, I ended up muttering, “Samuel, how could you treat me like this…”
The moment the sentence slipped out, I heard a scoff from above me. When I opened my eyes, I was surprised by the icy look on Evan’s face.
