Chapter 25 Quick to Adapt
The time Madison “saved” Samuel from those troublemakers
was actually orchestrated by that athletic student she was involved with.
Only someone as arrogant and naive as Samuel could be manipulated so easily by Madison.
In my previous life, I had only allied with Wendy because she was desperate. She asked me to keep an eye on Samuel, so I
did. She asked me to follow her, and I followed. I even went so far as to try to make Samuel see Madison’s true colors, thinking he was being foolish.
But in this new life, I said, “Mrs. Stafford, no one is jealous of us. Samuel’s injuries should be just an accident.”
“Is that so…” Wendy smiled and quickly added upon seeing that my mother was busy on a phone call, “Juju, Samuel loves the ring you gave him.
“Since he’s injured and can’t come to see you, Francis and I will represent both families at the engagement ceremony today. You won’t mind, will you?”
Just as I suspected, they were planning to act as soon as they could. But Wendy didn’t mention anything about me returning the gifts last night. It seemed she was trying to play dumb.
She always did this. She took advantage of things when my mother wasn’t around, praising me for being mature for my age, while my mother respected my decisions, allowing them.
to exploit the situation.
For now, I just smiled slightly. I would see what Wendy was going to say next. But to her, my silence probably seemed like shyness or hesitation, so she spoke even more directly.
“After the engagement, could you consider accompanying Samuel in repeating a year? You and Samuel have always been the perfect partners. If you’re with him, he’s sure to get into university next year…”
She didn’t even ask about my exam results. She immediately suggested I accompany Samuel in repeating a year, claiming it was for our future.
People were always selfish. In my previous life, their efforts to match me with Samuel were just to have a grandchild sooner. They ignored the emotional abuse he subjected me to.
Seeing that I still wasn’t speaking, Wendy tried to use
emotional manipulation, saying that if I continued to put in effort, Samuel would eventually see my worth and be moved.
I laughed lightly. “Mrs. Stafford, I think you’re mistaken. I already have a boyfriend.”
“What? A boyfriend? Juju, how can you be like this?”
She looked utterly shocked as if she had just seen a monster. Her expression was filled with disbelief and anger.
How interesting. Samuel could fool around outside, but I was not allowed to like another man. Was marrying someone else considered cheating?
I pointed outside. In front of the villa, a black Tesla had just
pulled up. Who else could it be but Evan?
Ha ha. Who would have believed that the man who said he’d arrive in Juville in the afternoon had actually messaged me early in the morning to say he was already here?
Before going downstairs, I was both surprised and delighted and quickly contacted Evan. I hoped he would come over as soon as possible.
I was nervous he might not show up, but he did. And he was right on time. Ah. Everything was just perfect. The only
downside was that he was only pretending to be my boyfriend. It would be perfect if it were real.
“Yes, I have a boyfriend, and we’re very much in love. How did you not know about this?” I said before walking outside with a
smile.
After a few days, Evan seemed even more handsome. Of
course, what hadn’t changed was his aloof, stoic demeanor. His handsome face displayed no emotions. His aura was still as cool and refined as ever.
He didn’t seem like a boyfriend at all, but more like an unreachable big boss. I subtly tugged at his sleeve.
“Mr. Stafford, please, now that you’re here, could you smile a little? Since you’re pretending to be my boyfriend, you should be a bit more affectionate. Look at me with more tenderness.”
I took the opportunity to hug his arm. I could feel his tall, firm. body stiffen for a moment. Just when I thought he was about to get angry, he surprisingly gave me a faint smile. He he. He was quick to adapt.
