Chapter 30 The Sharp–Tongued CEO
The buildings on this street were all townhouses and each one had a small garden filled with blooming flowers in front of the gate and a cobblestone path running through the middle.
Francis walked in front.
“Congratulations, Mr. Sinclair!” Samson approached while clasping his hands in celebration. “The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. Julia has made you proud by being the top. scorer in the province!”
Samson, who was usually quite busy, rarely saw my father at school, so he assumed Francis was my father.
Francis hesitated for a moment, but before he could speak, my father came running out, barely able to contain his excitement.
“You’ve got the wrong person! I’m Julia’s father, Logan! Samson, did you just say Julia is the top scorer in the
province? How many points did she get?” His face was full of nervous anticipation.
Upon realizing his mistake, Samson quickly apologized to Francis and gave my father a big thumbs up. “710 points!”
“What?” It was so noisy that my father didn’t catch it at first.” 710? Really, she scored 710? You’re not kidding me, are you?”
“Why would I lie?” Samson clapped his hands again in
excitement.
My father, clearly overwhelmed, completely forgot to thank or
acknowledge Samson. Instead, he took off running grinning
ear to ear.
In front of everyone, he picked up my mother in a bear hug.
“Honey, did you hear that? Julia scored 710! The heavens must be smiling down on us. I always knew letting you take charge. of her education was the right choice. Now, we can finally get remarried, hahaha.”
My father was overjoyed, while my mother’s face turned red as she scolded, “Put me down, Logan, put me down right now!”
He did put her down, but both of their faces were still full of shock. The way they looked at me was filled with disbelief.
Everyone else seemed just as surprised. In their eyes, I was just an average student, and scoring 500 points would have been impressive. But 710? Who wouldn’t be shocked? Only I knew the real reason behind it.
In my previous life, during those 15 years of being ignored by Samuel, I forced myself to study constantly, partly to heal and partly to escape depression.
In those 15 years, I practically memorized all the high school textbooks and revision materials. Even though my results from the preliminary exams weren’t great, after being reborn the day. before the college entrance exam, there was no way I’d score
poorly.
“Julia, you’re amazing! You’ve made me so proud. Some people thought you’d need to repeat a year with them. Ha! What a joke!” My mother’s words were dripping with sarcasm.
Wendy, who was standing at the door, turned pale with anger and quickly stepped forward to ask Samson about Samuel’s score. But there was no need to ask.
Samuel and Madison believed that youth was meant to be enjoyed and wasted. If Samuel had taken the art exam with me, as an art student, he might have gotten into college. But during the exam, he chose Madison instead.
Madison had started late and didn’t like to work hard, so how could her specialty scores be any good?
“Sorry. I’m not really sure,” Samson replied, clearly
remembering the top students but not the low scorers. “Why don’t you check online?”
“Alright,” Wendy said, trying to preserve some dignity as she pulled out her phone to check the score.
I couldn’t see the screen from where I stood, but Evan, who was tall and imposing, could see it clearly.
“250 points, huh? Well, that’s a fitting score!” Evan sneered at Samuel. “You didn’t appreciate the top scorer when you had her, so I guess 250 suits you just fine.”
Ha ha. When it came to kicking someone when they were down, no one did it better than Evan.
I tried to hold it in, but I couldn’t help it. I let out a quick, sharp. laugh. Just one, but it was enough to make Samuel’s face
flush with anger.
“Julia!” He lunged at me, ready to lash out, but Francis quickly pulled him back.
“You fool! Haven’t you embarrassed us enough today?” Francis, having been humiliated repeatedly, barked at both Samuel and Wendy to leave.
At that moment, Samson came over and asked me if I had decided which university I wanted to apply to.
I didn’t hesitate and replied, “I want to study medicine! Can I get into Northstar University’s psychiatry or psychology
program? I want to help people who are suffering from depression.”
Samson had expected me to continue with Latin dance, so when he heard that I wanted to study medicine, he broke out into a broad smile.
“Of course you can, Julia! With your scores, you can choose any university in the country!”
Upon hearing that, I tried to contain my excitement and looked around to share the moment with Evan, only to realize that he had already disappeared.
