Chapter 13 Final Farewell
Nevea
The café door chimed as Claire walked in. I sat by the window, pretending to be engrossed in my phone, but I saw her. It was hard to ignore her presence, and even the men at the cafe turned to look at her.
Claire let out her fake and sweet smile and aimed it at me.
I sipped my coffee and prepared myself for whatever drama she would drop at me. Kai still hadn’t reached out, and I didn’t know. why Claire called me earlier to meet up.
“Nevea,” Claire greeted, sliding into the chair opposite me.
Her eyes were bright, but not in a friendly
way.
“Claire,” I replied flatly.
I put down my cup of coffee. I stared at Claire nonchalantly but didn’t smile.

because I didn’t pretend like her. She leaned forward, her perfume wafting over the table, and dropped her voice almost like a whisper.
“I thought I should tell you something. Kai… he’s still in love with me.”
Her words stabbed like a knife. Claire was waiting for some kind of reaction from me. She watched me closely, expecting me to break, cry, or at least argue. But these days, I mastered not giving Claire that satisfaction. Kai and her were not worthy of my tears anymore. Instead, I raised an eyebrow and shrugged.
“Good for you,” I muttered and sipped my coffee.
“But I don’t care.”
Surprise flashed across her face and was satisfying in a way I didn’t expect. Claire wasn’t used to this. She thrived on drama, on pitting people against each other, especially when it came to Kai. She

expected me to fight, claw, and scrape for his attention like before. But I’m done with that. I was leaving the pack. I had my own life, and Kai had made his choices.
“You‘ re leaving, aren’t you?” Claire asked.
Her tone shifted, almost too casual, but I could sense the underlying smugness.
“Yep,” I replied and leaned on my chair.
“I am. There’s nothing left for me here.”
Her lips twitched in what she probably thought was a sympathetic smile, but it was more of a victory grin.
“It’s for the best, I suppose. Kai and I have always had this… connection. It’s something you could never understand.”
I leaned forward and met her gaze.
“You can have him, Claire. Like I said, I don’t care. He is not the only man in the world. I would rather chase my dream than waste my life for him.”

She chuckled softly.
“Acting brave, Nevea. I am impressed. I know you are just leaving because you can’t accept that Kai has chosen me. But it’s a good decision, you know. I don’t want you to break down and cry during our mating ceremony.”
I let out a mocking smile.
“Good luck with pretending angel for the rest of your life. But we both know what kind of a bitch you are. And since you wasted my time, you pay for the coffee.”
I stood, grabbed my bag, and headed for the door without waiting for her reply. I felt like my heart was racing, but as I walked further, I felt lighter. She could have Kai if that’s what she wanted. But I was choosing myself this time.
The drive to my parents‘ house felt surreal. It had been a while since I’d seen them. The familiar scent of a home hit me as I opened the door. The smell of

cinnamon, freshly baked bread, and the faintest hint of lavender from my mom’s favorite cleaning spray enveloped the
house.
“Nevea, is that you?” Mom called from the
kitchen.
“Yeah, it’s me,” I replied, walking towards
her.
My mom wiped her face with an apron and smiled when she saw me but with a hint of
concern in her eyes.
“It’s been months,” she said, pulling me into a tight hug.
“Come, sit. We were just about to have dinner.”
I sat down at the table. My dad was already seated reading a newspaper. Then, he stopped and curiously looked at me when he put down the newspaper.
“So, have you taken the offer already? Are you sure about your decision?” he asked as

he poured himself some water.
I smiled weakly.
“Yes, Dad. I have already signed the contract. I would be leaving in three days.”
He smiled, but I could tell he was a little worried. My mom placed her hand over mine, her eyes studying me.
“That’s good news, honey. But what about Kai and you? Does he know? Have you discussed it with him? Aren’t you planning for the mating ceremony?” Mom asked.
“Kai canceled the mating ceremony, Mom. We have split up. And so, I am definitely sure that this job would be good for me.”
Her eyes widened. I hadn’t called them to inform them about what happened. I did not want them to worry. However, during that time, I debated going home to them or staying at my old apartment. I missed my mother’s hug, but I was a big girl already. I needed to solve my own problems like an
adult.

“What happened?”
“It’s a long story, Mom. But to cut it simply, he had chosen someone else.”
They exchanged a look but didn’t press further. They could tell that it was a sensitive issue for me. And they
understand now why I took the job, but I could sense that they feel Kai and I aren’t over yet.
“Well, we wish nothing but happiness for you, honey. And we will always be here whenever you need us.”
I stayed at my parent’s house that night but had trouble sleeping. Around 1:00 AM, Kai sent me a message on Instagram. I stared at my phone, trembling. He knew how to pick the perfect time to bother me, but I ignored it.
“It’s too late, Kai. You had your chance. But now, it’s just too late. Goodbye, Kai,” I whispered and switched my phone in silent mode.
