Chapter 5
My gaze shifted from one part of the room to another as the young man left to call his Boss
Carlos had me come down here, a state seven hours away from my comfort zone but he was so certain Nor Brown had what we needed for this
case.
The Champ’s case was one I was willing to go to lengths for and that was the reason I was seated in the waiting area, gently hirting my shoe rhythmically on the floor as I waited.
“Mr. Levendor, a voice called from behind me. You’re here to see me.”
“You must be Nor Brown” I answered, standing to my feet and turning to her.
“Yes”
My gaze fell on
on her- her brown hair, her sharp jawline, and her ever–beautiful skin.
“Eleanor?” [queried
Just Nor, she answered rather dismissively. “I hear you need my service?
“You are Nor Brown!” For a moment. I felt distorted from seeing my ex–wife who I hadn’t seen in years or even tried to reach out to She was modeling diamond earrings a silver bracelet, a solitaire diamond necklace, and a silver watch with an oversized black blazer to match her fuck–me- heek.
She looked okay–nothing like a woman sulking over a failed marriage and a part of me felt the angst of seeing that. Not just because she looked like she had moved on but because she was acting like 1 never existed.
“Mr. Levendor” She called and I tumed to her sharply. The guise she was trying to give off was so thick I could practically smell it wafting off of her. She raised her brow at me like she had said something I missed.
“Behind you,” I retorted and she gave a small nod, leading me to the hallway. The walk was silent with just her heels clicking and her feminine cologne saturating the hallway.
“I hear you’re the Boss. I muttered as we strode to her office. “You have a nice place.”
“Appreciate that.”
She pushed the door open and welcomed me into her office. Eleanor’s taste in things has changed over the years
Unlike the usual chiffon tops and skinny jeans she always wore, she was now into something more elegant.
Her office too could give off how much enhancement she has been trying to attain. Her corner although big enough, didn’t have any unnecessary furniture eating up her space
A simple yet grand office with high–tech computers on her table, silver–colored office accessories, portraits of herself on her wall, a mirror illuminating the white–panel–wall and a shelf with a demarcation of solved and unsolved cases.
Quite impressive, if I must say.
“Please have a seat,” she finally said after a moment of silence. “May I offer you anything!”
“Wine, I blurted sharply.
“I do not have wine here,” she responded. “I can get you a glass of water, juice, or coffee.”
“What am I?” I asked with my brows knitted forward. “Some college Intern?”
She didn’t answer that but just sat across me with her shoulder high. “We should get to business” she said calmly reaching for the file I had given her employee. “Tell me about this case of yours and let’s get our facts right.”
I
“Why did you change your name?” I asked on impulse as I thought of how I missed her identity.
“I don’t think it’s any of your business, Mr. Levendor”
“But I like to know the people I work with,” I attested. “Even though I may have known their most vulnerable side in the past.”

are Morgan Champ’s defense attorney,” she started, ignoring everything I said. “I need to know everything you have in his defense.”
“We haven’t even struck a deal yet.” I reminded her and she let out an exasperated sigh.
“Mr. Levendor. I do not—”
I raised one finger to shun her from talking the moment my phone vibrated in my pocket 1 shoved it out to see a message from Carlos about my next meeting.
It was something I could handle after now but I couldn’t resist the urge to bend Eleanor until she addressed the elephant in the room. She was trying so hard to make me feel like she didn’t give a damn about the past but we never can tell
I rose to my feet, grabbing the file from her table. “I just got a text from the best Investigation firm in the US. The Spies
She was twiddling her thumbs to Eght the emotion and just when I looked at her hands, she stopped.
“They handle cases like this better so I’ll have to meet with them first. If peradventure, they are so busy then I’ll return here; to yout
She swallowed hard, fighting off the urge to cuss at me and tell me what? That I’m an asshole? A jerk & failure of a husband”
Eleanor’s heels connected to the floor as she stood up promptly and walked to the door. Twisting the doorknob, she opened the door with a lump in her throat “You can take your leave, Mr. Levendor”
Ichuckled lightly, taking the same calculated strides to the door, and smiled at her Tilbe back. Eleanor
I walked straight to the SUV that was parked outside and my driver opened the door for me I slid inside with a form of anger growing in me because I knew what I just did.
There was something deep inside of me and I knew what it was. I didn’t know where thi
came from, but I couldn’t keep it under control
1 couldn’t let my ego be hurt. Not by anyone and not because of Eleanor. I think about her randomly, she never left here she was— -living a life that held no trane in me
my thoughts for too long and.

It may sound stupid to anyone including Carlos but I had a plan, one

There was only one cliche way
y to do that and so I cleared my throat. Turn the car back”
