Chapter 13
Eleanor
It took everything in me to make it to the bathroom and out without actually falling to the ground or something. I didn’t even drink much—yet | could feel the weight of the entire city on my shoulders.
As soon as I got dressed, I booked an Über because there was no way I’d be able to drive in this state. The drive to my destination took a few minutes and † just kept trying to recall the blurry images in my head.
Before I could get at anything, the car came to a halt right in front of the luxurious story building and I stepped out of the car elegantly. These days I always try to never miss out on any of my special procedures when it comes to looking perfect
I can’t say it’s entirely because of Avto’s visit but I also cannot deny that it has a thing or two to do with it. I strode inside, checking my wristwatch. Quier carly
I love being early and sometimes, being the first person to get here. I just feel like the extra time I get to be here before everybody else gives me a shot to ease into the day. I hate being the last person to show up or even showing up mid–work and it’s because it makes me feel out of place.

I tucked some strands of my hair behind my car as I got into the elevator. My makeup i lou just because I was drinking our
The elevator dinged and I stepped out, my heels clicking on the riled floor as I strode to the hallway leading to my floor. The serenity and how i could hear even the tiniest sound made me feel relaxed At least. I won’t be walking around feeling out of place or like Fm one step behind.
Just as I headed down the hallway. I noticed the light on and I frowned. It meant either someone got here before me or the light was left on yesterday and neither of them sounded great
“James” I responded before I turned to meet him. I can’t say I’m shocked–it’s not the first time he has arrived earlier than me but all of those times in the past he messed up and had to go into good–employer mode so I don’t sack him. Well, what is it this time?
“You’re early,” he said with a small smile.
“And you have not been this early in a while. Want to tell me something because I have all morning to listen
1 walked inraight into my office with James behind me. The floor–to–ceiling windows looked clean. My eyes darted to the rich mahogany furniture and back to the small bar that has only non–alerholies.
He walked around the office with his mal grace and stood in front of my desk. He smelled good–of an oceanic fragrance and before I could compliment his choice of cologne, I noticed how sharp he seemed to br
I started and paused. Is there something you want to tell me?”
“No” he reboutted. “Uh–actually. I just wanted to know if you got the message.”
verson and although he engaged me in a short conversation
“Mr. Levendor returned shortly after you left, Ma’am. He needed to speak to you in peru about the quality of our jobs, he did seem like he needed to speak to you first.”
My stomach was tied in knots as James finished
“I gave him the company card and he said he’d text–he’d reach out and I was just wondering if he already did so we can get to work.”
Oh Oh Oh
1 parted my lips to say something but I suddenly missed the words. I licked my lips in a reflex action and gave a small nod. “Okay. Did he say anything else
“No, Ma’am”
I noddled too. I have no idea what I was expecting him to say but since he promised to reach out and never did–could it be that Dis Cover isn’t what he was looking forward to!
No, Stop it. That is exactly how Avro works; makes you feel like you’re not up to the standards when in reality there was no damn standard,
“Anything from Rio Lincoln?” I asked, grabbing a document on the previous case we’ve been on. “Is there something we should be focusing on!”

“He has interviewed the witnesses and one of them provided valuable information that could support our client’s alibi,” james stated
“I need to see whatever information that was provided so I know how to go about the next step in catching the criminal.”
James gave a nod. “I’ll compile all the interview transcripts and any other relevant information that was absentioned.”
“Gracias” I stood up, reaching for an empty tumbler, “I’ll put a calla cross to see if I can get any surveillance footage to accredit the Witness
statement.”
James left to get to work and I picked up my phone, dialing Dante’s number. I placed the phone on my ear waiting for him to pick, and when he did
I exhaled in relict
“Thank goodness”
“Hmm.” Dante hummed. “Sounds like someone was to speak to me now.”
“Okay, Dante–sorry about the other day but it was Vi I needed to talk in”
“Girls issue, I get it
I resisted the urge to roll my eyes and just gave a small nod. “I need your help, Dante?
“I’m listening
“Okay —so remember our witness? So he claims this guy wasn’t anywhere close to his mother when she was poisoned and with what he said, it supports our client’s alibi but I just need to make sure he really was where he said he was
“So you need me la-
“I need you to get me the surveillance fourage covering the address I just sent you, I also need a list of every customer who paid for a cup of coffee between the period of am and I am. Can you pull up that record for me?”
“You know I can pull up any record about what anybody is doing. All you have to do is text me the same.”
I really don’t care about what anyone else is doing or wait–maybe I care about what Avro is doing
“So do you have any other name?” Dante asked and a ball formed in my throat.
