Chapter 18
“How did you get my address? The young man asked taking a seat across me.
“That is not important,” 1 waved off. “I’m As ro, the defense attorney representing Morgan Champ and I was hoping you could answer some of my questions.”
“You couldn’t get my statement from the cops or you do not believe the fact that I have nothing to do with Leila’s death?”
I remained calm, observing his body language and how he chose his words. I could feel his temper rising but why would an innocent man be upcomfortable?
“I understand you and Leila-“I paused midway and looked at the blonde who had her jaw clenched.
“Tub–I was about leaving she muttered and lowered her stance to kiss his cheek. Her heels connected to the tiles and kept clicking till she was away. I turned my attention back to Morgan who wasn’t even grateful for the break in transmission:
“You know you don’t have anything on me

His grip on his phone tightened as he adjusted on the couch. “So why are you berer
“I’m here because I know what happened between you and Leila. I know you were both good friends and it hurts to wake up one day and find out that your friend is no more. Really, I can’t imagine your boys”
I was being totally honest about that. I can’t imagine losing anyone I’m close to to the cold hands of death and definitely not someone I’ve had
intimate moments with
“Leila was so full of joy, he said with a small smile. “It really is so sad that she is quite.”
“Did she ever mention anything to you? Did she ever say she was scared of anyone?”
He took a moment
and just shook his head in disapproval

“She said nothing, he answered blatantly. “Well except that her lumband no longer booked at her the same way. She complained to me about how it was killing her to know there might have been somente ebe because he couldn’t even staral touching her”
My jaw tightened and I gave a noil, taking note of that
“Wax there any other complaints?”
“No,” the scoffed. “Why the hell are you still asking all these? It’s clear who killed Leila.
“And if I
may ask, who do you think killed her?”
“Morgan.” He leaned closer to me. We both know how emotion works for us men. First, you can no longer satisfy your wife and so you stick to refraining from arousing hier. One day, you learn that another man is doing that same shit you cannot do and you feel threatened. You feel betrayed, you feel less of yourself and in the heat of the momem, you grab a knife and stab her”
He paused when he was done painting a picture of what he thought may have happened. Tell me, Attorney, does case against this man?”

I fought the urge to give three reasons why I thought something was up with this story. “Can you tell me where you were on the day she was murdered?”
Simple, I was in Vegas, checking out some houses
“Houses,” I responded. “Why Vegas?”
“Personal reasons that do not concern you or your clients. Look,” he said sharply. “I sympathize with Morgan for losing his wife but I also think he’s the culprit here so what Eadviseice is that you get him to confess and maybe cut a deal with the DA

“When last did you and Leila talk?”
“Before she died, apparently.”
Irritated at his shot of sarcasm, I shook my head. “I need a dare, man.”
“I don’t recall,” he answered calmly. “Morgan was the one who was with her that day.”
“Was she with you?” I asked, trying to get his reaction. “The blonde, your girl”
“She’s my fiancée.” he responded, “She had a shoot with one of her fashion designers
I guessed right, she’s a model
“How long have you both been together!”
“Three years NOW.
“Does she know about the case?” asked again. “Does she know you slept with his wife!”
“Look, I don’t want you snooping. Attorney”
“I am trying to get information, I corrected him. And this is nothing like snooping”
“I’m only trying to see If you have an alibi, Charles–cause from the look of things, there’s more that you’re not letting out

I stood to my feet, reaching for my card from my wallet. I stretched it 10 him and gave a small nod. “For now. Here, this is my card in case you have anything else you think I should know or that can help us with this case”

He cocked me an eyebrow at first but then swallowed hard: “Grace Keys, but you have to keep her away from this mess. Don’t go around asking her a bunch of questions or harassing her. Her career is important to me.
But not her mental health, you asshole.
“Thanks for your time. I answered and took calculated strides to the door.
“Hone about you?”
I paused. “What about me!“
“Do you have any woman who you care about her career more than you care about yourself?”
A small lump formed in my throat. Sharing stories about my personal life with a suspect isn’t something I felt was right. Tl se Logan
