Chapter 7
I told Mara everything about Omega Camille’s end–of–life request and Alpha Lucas’s one–month stay with her. She was shocked, outraged, and found it absurd.
“Are you kidding me? Alpha Lucas is your mate, not hers.”
Her voice grew sharper as she continued, pacing in front of me.
“Shouldn’t she find a corner and quietly pass away?”
As Mara vehemently condemned Alpha Lucas’s actions, I gently rubbed my belly.
Eventually, she looked at me with a complex expression and said, “Emily, they say the

living can never compare to the dead.”
As she spoke, the puppy inside me gave a kick. That statement finally made me understand why the tears kept flowing.
Yes, I was afraid.
A month from now, if Omega Camille passes away, will Alpha Lucas’s heart go with her?
When our puppy is born, will he see this new life not as a blessing, but as a painful reminder of Omega Camille’s death?
Will Alpha Lucas and I ever be able to reclaim the bond we’ve built over the past four years?
In my heart, I already knew the answer. No.

long ago when I stumbled upon a small, nondescript box in a forgotten corner of our storage room. Inside were keepsakes- letters, photographs, and trinkets–all tied to Omega Camille.
The discovery unsettled me. It felt like finding a piece of someone else’s world tucked away in my own.
When I confronted Alpha Lucas about it.
Alpha Lucas wrapped his arms around me from behind. “Emily, I just wanted to keep a memento.”
He must have seen the doubt in my eyes, because he quickly gestured to a larger box sitting prominently in the room.
“This,” he said, his voice warm and reassuring, “is our box. It’s filled with

everything that represents **us.** Our love.”
At the time, his explanation worked. It comforted me. After all, **our** box was bigger. Didn’t that mean I mattered more?
But now, sitting here, I realized how naive I had been.
Hiding things and displaying them openly are entirely different.
