Chapter 14
A few days later, I heard through the pack that Omega Camille had passed away.
I had deleted her contact long ago, severing any connection between us.
When Alpha Lucas appeared before me in a somber black suit, his eyes swollen and red.
“Emily, his voice cracked, raw with emotion, “Camille is dead.”
Neither Omega Camille nor our puppy had survived a single month.
The fragile arrangement Alpha Lucas and I had made, though not mutually agreed upon, had crumbled faster than either of us anticipated.

He had finally come to find me. Seeing his despondent state, I smiled faintly. “Alpha Lucas, it seems you haven’t been home these past few days.”
Of course, he hadn’t. Omega Camille must have been growing weaker; how could he bear to leave her side?
“I’ve left the signed divorce papers on the coffee table. Alpha Lucas, it’s time for us to get divorced.”
My words pushed him to the brink.
“Emily, don’t leave me. Don’t leave me alone,” His voice was filled with panic.
“But Alpha Lucas, you’re truly alone now.”
“The ex–mate you couldn’t let go of is dead.

The puppy you eagerly anticipated is dead. And now, your mate is ready to leave.”
“Alpha Lucas, you deserve to be alone.”
As I spoke, I watched Alpha Lucas’s face turn pale and his expression become increasingly frantic.
“Hurry and sign the papers. I’m eager to finalize the divorce.”
Alpha Lucas refused to agree to the divorce initially, so I initiated legal proceedings.
When we met again during one of the hearings, he fell to his knees before me, his pride discarded as he begged.
“Emily, do you really want to leave me?”

His voice was hoarse, and the sight of him on the ground might have broken me once, but not anymore.
“I truly had no choice at the time. Omega Camille was in the late stages of cancer; she needed care more urgently.”
I clenched my fists, my nails biting into my palms.
Alpha Lucas fell to his knees before me, trying to make amends. Yet, even in this situation, his thoughts were with Omega Camille.
“But Alpha Lucas,” I replied coldly, “I am your legal wife.”
“Your pregnant wife is alone at home, and when she needed you most, you were caring

for your ex–mate.”
He looked as though my words had physically struck him, but I wasn’t done.
“I sent you a telepathic at the moment I fell. I begged for your help. And you reject me. then you reject my phone. You-” My voice cracked, but I forced myself to continue. “You cut off Avery’s all chance of survival.”
Those words finally broke him. I kicked him aside and walked straight to the door.
I stepped around him, walking toward the door. Before I left, I looked back one last
time.
“Alpha Lucas, I burned all the flowers. We don’t have a fifth year anymore.”
“And clean out the nursery. It’s no longer

needed.”
On the way to my new home, a message came through on my phone.
“I’m sorry, Luna Emily. I’m sorry for everything–for you and for Avery.”
I didn’t respond. I knew he must have seen the journal, the one I left behind before walking out. On one of the blank pages, I had written my final words:
“Avery, go to a happy home; Alpha Lucas, our home is gone.”
In the end, Alpha Lucas agreed to the dissolution of our bond. The court

awarded me the majority of the assets, a compensation for all I had endured.
With those funds, I purchased a small house for myself. A place to start over.
Not every home is a happy one. But maybe, just maybe, this one could be.
