Eric glanced at the papers, then tossed them aside nonchalantly.
“Do you really need to make such a big deal out of this? Such a trivial thing? You weren’t that hurt. Maggie’s injuries are way worse than yours.”
A trivial thing?
“Eric, don’t you figure it out? If it weren’t for her giving directions like a fool, there wouldn’t have been a‘ crash, and I wouldn’t be lying here in a hospital bed.”
His eyes flickered for a second. “I was the one driving, not Maggie. What does she have to do with this? You’re just looking for trouble. Besides, you’re fine.”

“Then why was she at the station?” I asked, no longer hiding my contempt. Since he didn’t care about face, I wouldn’t either.
Eric frowned. “What are you talking about?”
I pulled out my phone and showed him the pictures of them together.
“You’ve been spying on me?” Eric’s face twisted in anger. He gritted his teeth, practically snarling. “How dare you?”
So did he fly off the handle just like that?
“You’re violating our privacy” Eric spat through clenched teeth. “I just asked Maggie to take care of Jason. Nothing happened between us. You can ask Jason if you don’t believe me.”

“It doesn’t matter anymore,” I said, my voice cold. “All you need to do is sign here, and I won’t report you to the school.”
“Are you threatening me?” Eric’s face darkened, his eyes narrowing in fury.
I smiled bitterly. “Isn’t that what you want? You and Jason think I’m just an old housewife, a useless stay–at–home mom. You want someone better. Maggie’s your first love, a teacher. She’s more to your liking, isn’t she?”
“That’s not true, I never thought that way. Maggie and I are innocent, Eric continued to defend himself.
“Don’t waste time. Just sign it, and I’ll clear the way for both of you” I replied coldly.
“Daisy, you’re doing this on purpose,” Eric

narrowed his eyes and studied me. “You think you can blackmail me with a divorce? You think I’ll give in?”
I almost laughed. He still believed I was just bluffing.
“You can have Jason. The house will be split between us. I won’t ask you for any cash- just transfer the property to Jason’s name. As for your savings, I won’t take a cent,” I stated plainly, laying out my terms.
Eric stared at me for a long moment before speaking. “Have you thought this through?. You’re getting old, with no money, no job. No. one will want you after the divorce, let alone live the good life you’ve been having.”
“Good life? Being your free maid?” I scoffed.
Eric finally signed the divorce papers.

When I was discharged from the hospital, the cooling–off period was over, and we went to register the divorce.
I wore my best clothes and left behind everything Eric had bought for me. I took only the few belongings I had left and walked out.
Jason stood at the door of his room, glaring at me with a dark look in his eyes.
“I’ve made dumplings and left them in the fridge. Eat them if you’re hungry.”
Jason sneered, “Who cares? Don’t come back after you leave. I’m not going to take care of you when you’re old.”
With that, he ran back into his room and
slammed the door hard.
