As soon as I went downstairs, I saw my parents and my younger brother waiting for
- me.
“Dad, Mom,” I rushed over and hugged them, my eyes brimming with tears.
When I told my parents I was marrying Eric, they had objected.
The two families had clashed when we met. Eric’s mother looked down on my family for being from the countryside. She thought the vegetables my parents had given weren’t up to par, but those were all things my parents had worked hard for, things that had cost them a lot of effort.

even suggesting that she wouldn’t provide a dowry.
To be honest, my parents didn’t care much about the amount of the dowry, but they thought that Eric’s family didn’t show me enough respect.
I privately discussed with Eric and decided to give $60,000 to my family, pretending it was the dowry from his family, but my parents still didn’t agree.
Despite their objections, I loved Eric, so we secretly got our marriage certificate.
When my parents found out, they kicked me out of the house, and we didn’t speak for two
years.
I tried calling them, but they wouldn’t answer. The things I sent were returned.

It wasn’t until I sent them a photo of Jason that my brother told me my parents cried when they saw it.
From that point on, I sent them Jason’s photos every week. Eventually, my parents softened and allowed me to come back for the holidays with the child.
They were very kind to Jason. Every time we visited, in addition to giving him pocket money, they also gave him a lot of vegetables from their garden. On the surface, it was for Jason, but in reality, it was to help improve my life.
But when Jason turned five, he stopped wanting to go.
When I asked him why, he said he hated the countryside.

I didn’t dare let my parents hear that, as I knew it would hurt them. When they asked, I told them he needed to attend extracurricular classes. They even criticized me for being too strict with him.
“Mom, Dad heard you got a divorce and insisted on coming to get you, my brother said to me.
I hugged them even tighter. “I’m sorry for making you worry.”
“Forget about the past, it’s over. Let’s go home,” my parents said, their eyes red as they gently patted my shoulder.
After returning home, I slept well for two days straight before finally started working in the greenhouse.

Our family, and the whole village, were farmers. Every household had a greenhouse.
Life in the countryside was tough but fulfilling. With so much work to do every day, there was hardly any time to dwell on unnecessary things.
It wasn’t until I received a message from the parent of one of Jason’s classmates asking where I had been, as they hadn’t seen me in a long time.
I told her I had returned to my hometown. She asked when I would be back, mentioning how delicious the vegetables I had given her last time was and how her child couldn’t stop talking about them.
As I looked at the greenhouse in front of me, a sudden idea struck.
