Book 3 My Adopted Son Is My Husband’s Mistress’s Child
My seven–year–old son suddenly expressed an interest in learning the piano, and I wholeheartedly supported him.
The next day, my husband contacted an old classmate to be our son’s piano teacher.
It wasn’t until that day, when I forgot some documents and returned home, that I heard my son’s affectionate voice from inside the house.
“Mom, do I play well?”
My hand froze for a moment, and then, I heard my husband’s voice.
“When that woman dies, we can finally be a

family of three.”
A family of three?
I stood frozen at the door, feeling an icy chill seep through my body, my hands trembling uncontrollably.
They were a family of three–so what did that make me?
What had I ever been?
Through the narrow crack in the door, I saw the warm, golden light spilling over the three of them, a stark contrast to the cold stillness that gripped me.
Eden had one arm around Daisy’s shoulder, his face beaming with a blissful, sweet
smile.

And my son, sitting at the piano, tilted his head and playfully spoke to Daisy.
“Mom, when you and Dad get married, do I still have to call that woman ‘Mom‘?”
“She never lets me have snacks and forces me to take medicine every day. I hate her!”
I’ve always known my son didn’t like me as much as others.
Since he was little, he’s been in poor health. I consulted many doctors, adjusted his prescriptions countless times, and finally settled on the current one.
It nourished his body without being too harsh.
Even his daily meals, I was always careful about.

I never cooked, but everything he ate had to be made by me.
But I never imagined that he didn’t just dislike me.
He had come to the point of hating me.
My hands clenched into fists at my sides, my gaze locked on Daisy.
She wasn’t particularly pretty, just plain, maybe even a little delicate, but she had an aura of gentleness about her. She always wore light–colored clothes.
Her soft, gentle features were everything I lacked.
Daisy reached out and tenderly stroked my son’s face, her voice soft.

“Of course, darling.”
“It must have been hard for you, calling someone else ‘Mom‘ for four years. Whatever you want, sweetheart, Mommy won’t stop you.”
My son cheered and happily resumed his piano practice.
Daisy turned her head slightly and whispered to Eden.
“Eddie, is your plan reliable? Will there be any problems?”
“Don’t worry, Viola takes her medicine every night before bed. I watch her take it each time. There won’t be any issues.”
“That’s good. Eddie, I’ve really had enough of

this sneaky life.”
Daisy wrapped her arms around Eden’s neck, her sleeve slipping down to reveal a bracelet on her wrist.
That bracelet was a gift I’d received from a business partner.
It was too big, so I kept it in my jewelry box and never wore it.
A few days ago, I couldn’t find it, and I just asked Eden to look around at home, not thinking much of it.
But I never expected that he’d given it to Daisy as a gift, presenting it as though it was his own.
I couldn’t bear to watch them, a happy family of three, any longer, so I went downstairs.

Sitting in the car, I shakily lit a cigarette.
My heart, still reeling from the shock, seemed as though it was about to leap out of my chest with every beat.
It thudded, as if trying to escape through my mouth.
I wasn’t very familiar with Daisy, only knowing that she was Eden’s old classmate.
When our son suddenly decided to learn the piano a while back, Eden had contacted her.
I was so caught up in work that I rarely interacted with Daisy.
I only remembered that the first time she came to the house to teach, we briefly crossed paths.

That day, Daisy had urgently needed to use the bathroom, and I had planned to point her in the right direction.
But her hurried steps were quicker than my words.
I was puzzled, but Eden had simply explained that when he went downstairs to meet her, he’d already told her where the bathroom was.
Eden and I had been in a relationship for four years, married for another four–eight years in total–of deep trust.
I had never once doubted him.
But now, it seemed they might have already been secretly involved, and I was the only fool left in the dark.

My thoughts were abruptly interrupted by the ringing of my phone.
It was a call from Eden.
When I arrived at the office today, I realized I had forgotten the file I needed.
I had planned to ask Eden to bring it to me, but he hadn’t answered my call.
There was no other choice–I had to go back myself.
I never expected Eden to give me such a shock.
I took a deep breath, forcing myself to calm down, pushing the anger down and trying to sound more composed.

“Vivi, did you call me just now for something?”
Eden’s voice on the other end was as warm as always.
I closed my eyes.
The scenes I had just witnessed replayed in my mind, over and over.
My hand, holding the phone, trembled uncontrollably.
Even my breathing became ragged.
“It’s nothing.”
“I just… missed you.”
Eden chuckled softly, his tone full of
affection.

“It’s been so many years, and you’re still this clingy!“‘”
“I miss you too, Vivi. I’ll pick you up after work, okay?”
“No need, I’ll get back to work now.””
Before Eden could respond, I hung up the phone.
His voice showed no sign of anything unusual.
Everything before me blurred, and I let out a bitter laugh, tears sliding down the corners of my eyes.
Eight years of love.
I had made Eden my everything.
