Under the dim light, Eden’s expression shifted from one extreme to the other.
His smile was stiff, but he still tried to play it off as a joke.
“What poison? If I wanted to kill you for money, I might as well just take a car and end it all in one go.”
I pretended not to notice the guilty look in Eden’s eyes and chose not to say anything further.
Before bed, Eden handed me my medicine, just as he always did.
Without a moment’s hesitation, I took it.
