Chapter 5
By the time I arrived at the hospital, Eden and Daisy were already in the room.
Aaro was lying in the hospital bed, fast asleep.
I glanced back and forth between Eden and Daisy, eventually focusing on Eden.
Before I could say anything, he hurriedly explained,
“Vivi, don’t misunderstand it. After class today, I took Aaro to the park to play, and he accidentally scratched his leg.”
“Ms. Hubbard happened to be nearby, so she came over with us.”

Eden studied my face carefully, his
expression uneasy.
He didn’t notice that Daisy, standing behind. him, was turning pale.
I hadn’t yet responded when the doctor entered the room.
His face was grim, and his eyes eventually fixed on Eden.
“You’re the child’s father, right? Please come with us.”
The doctor’s serious expression made even me furrow my brows.
I spoke up before Eden could move.
“I’m the child’s mother. I’ll go with you.”

The doctor nodded and left the room first.
Eden and I followed, but when I turned around, I noticed that Daisy was trailing behind us.
When she caught my gaze, she gave me a hesitant smile and said,
“Aaro is also my student. I’m worried about him too.”
I raised an eyebrow but didn’t say anything.
It wasn’t until the door closed behind us that the doctor spoke up.
“When the child was brought in, we noticed an abnormal amount of blood loss, so we ran some tests on his blood.”
“We found that his white blood cells,

megaloid red blood cells, and platelets were all at irregular levels…”
My heart dropped, and I already knew what the doctor was about to say.
“Preliminary results suggest it could be leukemia.”
The moment the doctor finished speaking, both Eden and Daisy’s faces turned ashen.
These past days, I had already stopped thinking of Aaro as my child.
Though there was a sense of regret, it wasn’t enough to bring me too much pain.
“We’ll need to run more tests to confirm, but please prepare yourselves for the possibility.”
“Thank you, doctor. We understand.”

The doctor gave me a few more curious glances due to my strange demeanor, but eventually, he nodded and left.
“Vivi, is what the doctor said true…?”
“Aaro–Aaro has always been so healthy, how could it be leukemia…?”
Eden’s eyes were filled with confusion, his lips trembling.
Daisy, on the other hand, had tears wEddieng up in her eyes.
I remained silent, looking down at the work I needed to finish.
But then Daisy spoke up suddenly.
“Ms. Miller, you’re so wealthy, you’ll make

sure to give Aaro the best treatment, right?”
Her voice was filled with expectation.
It was almost laughable.
Not only had I raised her son for four years without a word, but now she wanted me to pay for the medical bills for the son of my husband and her.
How could there be such a good deal in this world?
I put my phone away, raising an eyebrow at Daisy as I replied,
“Who says I’ll be paying for his medical expenses?”
