Chapter 6
She ran a hand through her perfectly styled hair, a mocking grin tugging at her mouth. “Clarissa, don’t tell me you actually thought he didn’t know anything?”
“Faye!” Rolf instinctively tried to stop her.
“What’s so hard to say?” Faye walked up to me, arms crossed. “Why not let her see this?”
She pulled out her phone and opened a video from five years ago.
Inside the MIT chapel, Rolf was on one knee. “Faye, for these five years, I will follow the plan. Once we have the title and the research results, we can be together, without any
shame.”

“Did you see that?” Faye looked at me, her gaze full of challenge.
“He never loved you. You were just a pawn in his game, the one we had to sacrifice for our plan.”
My eyes grew colder, my fingertips tapping lightly on the edge of the table.
“I…” Rolf’s face drained of color.
“Rolfie, there’s no need to explain.” Faye suddenly softened, snuggling into his arms. “We’ve had an engagement since childhood. What’s she to us? Just a third party trying to ruin our relationship.”
I pressed my lips together, a flicker of disdain passing through my eyes.
Clearly, Faye was enraged by my silent

mockery.
She raised her chin, her gaze sharp and venomous. “Do you really think he’s been so reluctant to reveal your identity because he cares about you? No, it’s because deep down, he knows you’re nothing but a substitute, a tool to give him what he wants!”
“Shut up!” Rolf finally couldn’t hold back his
anger.
“What’s wrong? Feeling guilty?” Faye laughed even more wildly. “Who was it that left her to die in the lab during the tsunami? Who gave me her oxygen mask? Who was the first to announce I was your fiancée while she was unconscious?”
She pressed closer, her voice dripping with venom. “Rolf, aren’t you supposed to love me? What, you can’t bear to part with the

captive lover you’ve kept for five years?”
“Enough.” Stuart stepped forward.
“Oh, look who’s here, the rescue team captain.” Faye’s gaze lingered on him with a knowing smirk. “What, planning to play the hero? I advise you to save your breath. With someone like her…”
Slap-
I raised my hand and struck her across the face.
“Faye, have you said enough?” I looked at her coldly. “Do you want me to expose the video of you editing my report?”
“You!” She recoiled, covering her face. “Rolf, she hit me!”

But Rolf stood there, frozen, not saying a word.
“Confess, or I’ll make all the evidence public.” I placed the video in front of her, my gaze unyielding. “I’m sure you wouldn’t want to see a headline reading ‘University Professor Caught Plagiarizing, would you?”
“You wouldn’t dare!” Faye screamed.
I opened my laptop and clicked the mouse. “See for yourself if I dare or not.”
On the screen, the video evidence of her editing the report in the lab was crystal clear.
“I’m giving you three days.” I glanced at my watch. “Either you go to the police and confess, or I’ll release this right now.”
“You can make the call.”

Seeing Faye’s face go deathly pale, I delivered the final blow. “By the way, the punishment for academic fraud abroad is far more severe.”
At my words, Faye’s fingers, gripping the edge of the table, tightened suddenly, her knuckles turning an unnatural shade of white.
