I fought back the tears threatening to spill, my eyes red as I confronted him.
“You tricked me into giving birth in that place, then you stole my child, lied to me that the baby died, and gave her to that woman!
Wasn’t being with that woman behind my back enough? Why did you have to steal my child too?”
The last sentence came out in a choked sob.
Everyone present turned their gaze toward me, drawn by my words. They all looked at me in unison.

“Sarah, don’t do this…”
After offering me a feeble comfort, he then turned to apologize to the officers.
“I’m sorry, my wife recently lost our child and has suffered a breakdown. She’s not well.”
The female officers standing nearby exchanged comforting smiles with Andy, gesturing that it was no big deal, then leaned in and whispered to each other.
“I knew something was off when she tried to snatch that baby in broad daylight. Turns out, she lost her own. Poor thing”
“At least her husband really loves her. She’s caused all this trouble, and he’s still not angry.”

lip, feeling as if a heavy stone was crushing my chest, making it nearly impossible to breathe.
Andy stepped forward and gently helped me up from my seat, his eyes lowered.
“Alright, let’s go home. Don’t make this harder for them.
The child was my responsibility. I should have let you see him one last time before the cremation. Don’t be sad.
I know you miss the baby, but if you behave and get the treatment you need, we’ll have another child in the future.”
“I don’t want the future, I want my child now!”
I slapped him hard across the face, so hard that one of the female officers gasped in

Two of them immediately tried to calm me down, while the other pulled Andy aside and quietly suggested,
“Her condition seems pretty bad. You might need to take her back to the hospital.”
Her voice was soft, but I still heard her.
“I’m not sick. I’m really not sick. You have to believe me. He really stole my child.”
My body trembled as I tearfully explained to the officer beside me, but all I got in return were looks of pity and sympathy.
Andy pulled me into his arms. “I’m sorry, I’ll try to calm her down.”

my ear, and whispered in a cold voice,
“If you keep causing a scene, I’ll have no choice but to send you to a mental hospital. Your parents already know what you did today, and they insisted I get you proper treatment.”
I understood the hidden meaning in his words.
If I kept fighting, I’d end up locked away.
I bit down hard on my lip, forcing down the anger burning inside me, shedding the sharp edges I’d been holding onto.
“I’m sorry, it’s just that I’m so heartbroken. I can’t accept that our child is dead. I’m so, so sorry…”
