Chapter 4
Alpha Leonard noticed my gaze and let out a soft chuckle.
“It seems that Ms. Britney is more intrigued by my crippled legs than by the reason I invited her here”
His words jolted me from my thoughts. Embarrassment flooded through me as I realized how rude I’d been.
“I’m sorry, Alpha Leonard,” I said quickly, bowing my head. “I didn’t mean any
disrespect.”

Alpha Leon
ately,
though a faint, enigmatic smile tugged at the
corner of his mouth.

His silver eyes studied me with an intensity that felt unsettling–not quite the look of an acquaintance or even an alpha to his pack member’s wife. No, there was something else in his gaze. Something deeper.
It wasn’t scrutiny. It wasn’t pity. It was… longing?
Had we met before?
Before I could delve deeper into the thought, Alpha Leonard spoke first.
“I asked you here today because I need a Luna.”
I froze, my breath catching as I stared at him in disbelief.
“Alpha Leonard, do you mean…” I couldn’t bring myself to finish the sentence, the

implication too staggering to voice.
He sighed, a touch of exasperation breaking through his composed demeanor. “Britney, Alpha Joseph doesn’t deserve you.”
His eyes shone brightly as they met mine.
“Which means, the person who sent me that message was you, Alpha Leonard.”
I stared at him, stunned.
He met my gaze with the same intensity.
“Yes, Britney, I like you.”
Upon hearing those words, I stood there, frozen in place.
Because of those words, I had heard them once before, a year ago.

It was during one of the darkest periods of my life. My mother had just passed, and my father, eager to erase her memory, remarried within the week.
He sent me away, shipping me off to Stone City under the pretense of education, but I knew better–I was discarded, out of sight and out of mind.
In those bleak days, my only solace came from letters exchanged with a stranger.
He was my pen pal, my confidant, and the only one who seemed to understand me in a world that felt cold and unrelenting.
He said he was a fan of my novel, After the Flowers Bloom. Over time, our exchanges deepened into something more.

Before I returned to Crystal Blood Pack, he had written to me: “Britney, I like you. When you come back, let’s be together.”
But when I returned, he disappeared. No more letters. No more warmth.
All I knew was that he came from Blue Rock Pack.
And the man my father arranged for me to marry also from Blue Rock Pack.
At first, I didn’t want to accept such an arrangement.
But when Alpha Joseph came to see me that day, he was holding a copy of After the Flowers Bloom, the very book I had written.
I asked him why, and he smiled at me.

“Oh, I’ve been a fan of this book for a long time. I’ve always liked the author’s work.”
The same hobby, the same pack, Blue Rock Pack.
And on my first shift, I found out he was my mate. I believe the Moon Goddess’s blessing can’t be wrong.
That’s why I believed Alpha Joseph was the one who truly understood my heart.
And so, I agreed to the arranged marriage.
But after we married, I tried many times to bring up our past, but he would always act like he didn’t understand or didn’t care at all.
Once, when I couldn’t help myself and mentioned a letter we had exchanged, Alpha Joseph erupted in anger.

“Luna Britney, are you crazy? How many times do I have to tell you I never wrote you a letter? You must have a delusion or something!”
After that, I never dared to bring it up again.
It made me so sad for a long time.
I had thought… those memories meant so much to me alone.
But what did Alpha Leonard’s words mean just now?
Could it be… that I had mistaken the person?
I looked at him, unable to believe what was happening.
