Chapter 8
Smith truly kept his word.
The next day, he appeared before me just as confidently, without any trace of awkwardness from last night’s confession.
His concern for me was perfectly balanced- considerate yet respectful. To outsiders, we seemed like nothing more than seamlessly working partners.
Some hinted that since I was single, I might consider him. After all, he was a wealthy and handsome nobleman, not easily found.
But I politely declined each suggestion. Firstly, the hurt Ewen Wood caused me was still too fresh for romance. Secondly, our divorce wasn’t finalized; I couldn’t leave

The project progressed rapidly, thanks to the involvement of several outstanding domestic partners. By year’s end, all the installations were in place, hailed by local media as the “Paris Miracle.”
Smith had also submitted the project for awards, and it was said to stand a good chance of winning.
“SU, that’s three more projects and then it’s done. Will you return home by then?”
I was about to answer when a familiar voice rang out: “Stay away from my wife, you foreign scum!”
I turned my head to see none other than Ewen Wood.

Friends back home informed me that N Company had dismissed both Ewen Wood and Felecia Ford, demanding restitution from Ewen as per their agreement.
His tarnished reputation even led the prestigious school, which valued its image, to suggest transferring Demir Wood.
I had always opposed these networking–focused schools for Demir. A child’s task should be learning, not socializing. The original public school had a rigorous academic atmosphere, with proficient teachers, and was ideal for his growth.
But Ewen Wood, swayed by Felecia Ford, insisted on transferring Demir, under the guise of “starting off strong.”
Now that Demir faced expulsion, and

returning to his previous school was out of the question, he was left out of school, waiting for Ewen’s arrangements.
I was shocked to find Ewen had left the child to come to Paris.
I looked at him coldly, crossing my arms and stepping back: “Ewen Wood, what are you doing here?”
“If I didn’t come, you’d have run off with a foreigner behind my back. How dare you, Manvi Nelson? Don’t forget you’re still my wife.”
“Come home with me; the kid and I need you!”
His audacity was infuriating. Just as I was about to retort, Smith stepped protectively in front of me, his expression steely, standing

off against Ewen.
“Ewen Wood, out of respect for our past collaboration, please leave. Manvi Nelson is our esteemed consultant, and I am bound to ensure her safety. Don’t make me get rough.”
Ewen was enraged by this dismissal and suddenly pulled a knife from his pocket, ready to lunge at Smith.
“This is between me and my wife; it’s none of your business! Get lost, before I do something drastic!”
“Manvi Nelson, if you won’t come with me, we might as well go down together.”
He charged, and I shrieked, instinctively pulling Smith aside to shield him.
Luckily, nearby workers noticed the

commotion and swiftly restrained Ewen, preventing what could have been a bloody incident.
But Smith’s hand was still cut in the scuffle.
“Smith, are you alright?” I asked anxiously, gripping his hand. “Let me take you to the doctor.“Man’s
Amidst his pain, he managed a slight smile. “SU, it was an honor to protect you. Were you trying to shield me from the knife just now?”
Avoiding his intense gaze, I focused on tending to his wound. “It’s what I should do since you got hurt because of me!
“Thank you. I believe one day you’ll understand my feelings.”
How could I not?

Smith filed charges against Ewen Wood for the deliberate attack, and when the court asked if I wanted to settle out of court, I firmly refused. His behavior was too erratic and dangerous; he needed to face consequences.
With this incident, I enlisted a lawyer to file for divorce.
The ruling came swiftly. Given his propensity for harm, and the fact that he had indeed caused it, the court granted a divorce in the first judgment.
Ewen Wood ended up in prison.
I went back to arrange a new school for Demir Wood and gave Ewen’s parents a sum of money, asking them to look after their
grandson.
When Demir saw me, his eyes brimmed with
tears.
“Mom, I’m sorry. I trusted Dad and Auntie Felecia wrongly. I realize my mistake now.”
I shook my head. Demir hadn’t realized his mistake; he’d only realized he backed the wrong side and now sought refuge.
“Don’t worry. You are my child, and I’ll raise you well, providing you a good life.”
Still, my dear, I regret that when I was at my lowest, you chose to side with your father against me, undermining all I did for you. I can no longer offer you boundless love.
As I left, I handed him some money, gently ruffling his hair.
