Chapter 23
The person who truly loved Lumina was Floyd. The one who was meant to marry her was him. So why should he care about the opinions of his parents or others?
For the first time, he firmly rejected Drew and Erika’s demands. “I want Lumina. I
want her to wake up! And if she’s not going to wake up, then I’ll die with her.”
For an entire week, Floyd worked alongside the recovery team, painstakingly searching through the thick mud, inch by inch, looking for any trace of the ring.
The mud was often littered with all sorts of sharp stones and glass shards.
Floyd had no experience in salvage work, relying only on brute force. His gloves would frequently tear and the deeper he reached, the more his hands would bleed, mixing with the mud to form dark, sticky blood.

The physical pain was nothing compared to the crushing despair in his heart. By the end, he was almost searching on instinct. alone.
Then, he received a phone call from his
assistant.
Hastily, he rushed to the hospital. The mud still clung to him, his handsome face lined with exhaustion, as though he had aged ten years in an instant.
“Has Moony woken up?”
The hospital director, who had been waiting nearby, quickly spoke up, “About half an hour ago, the equipment in Ms. Shields‘ room triggered an abnormal alert. It detected a brief brainwave and heartbeat. Since then, everything has calmed down again.”
“We’ve been closely monitoring her, but we still haven‘ t reached a definitive
conclusion.”
“Nonetheless, the fact that we detected.

both brain activity and a heartbeat is definitely a positive sign.”
Floyd struggled to find the words to express what he was feeling. He walked to
Lumina’s bedside and gently took her
hand in his.
Her pale face remained calm, serene.
“What’s the next step?” Floyd asked quietly.
A doctor entered, holding a tablet. The director took it from him and opened a video on the screen.
“The most important thing now is understanding why Ms. Shields exhibited these unusual fluctuations. So, we reviewed the footage from the period leading up to the incident and we found something important.”
Floyd took the tablet and the screen. displayed a slender woman entering the

At first, the equipment was functioning normally. But then, the woman’s hand brushed lightly against Lamina.
In less than a second, all the equipment began to blare alarms. Every corner of the ICU was under surveillance, so the
woman’s face was captured clearly on
camera.
It was a face Floyd had never seen before, but for some reason, it felt oddly familiar to him. “Who is this woman?” he asked.
At that moment, his assistant handed him a news cover with the results of the
investigation. “On the 18th of this month, the heir to the Saunders Family announced his engagement to his fiancée. This woman in the video is his fiancée.”
Floyd stared at the headline, a strange feeling rising in his chest.
The Saunders Family held nearly as much power in the city as the Stuart Family, so Floyd knew their heir, Grant. They‘ d

“Do you know who this woman is?” Floyd asked again.
His assistant nodded. “Her name is
Rebecca. She was adopted by the Saunders Family. She and Grant were engaged three
years ago.
“But then, she disappeared during an expedition in Mount Gravenwood. It s said that Grant searched for her for an entire year before finally finding her in Mount Gravenwood.”
