Chapter 7
Luckily, the speed at which I tumbled down the hill was far greater than the pace at which Owen and Bianca could chase after
- me.
I spotted the gate up ahead. I could see several security guards standing near the entrance. I pushed myself harder, my lungs burning and I screamed for help.
“Help! Help! Those two people behind me are trying to kill me! Please, someone help me!”
When the guards heard my frantic cries, they quickly rushed toward me. A couple of them reached out and pulled me up from the ground, where my body was battered from the fall.
“Madam, don’t worry! Stay calm! We won’t let anyone harm you here!”
The guards quickly positioned themselves around me, forming a protective circle.

They stood tall and strong, blocking Owen and Bianca.
I was finally saved, but the pain in my body and the intense fear I had just experienced suddenly overwhelmed me all at once. In the next moment, I lost consciousness just like that.
When I opened my eyes again, I found myself tied to a chair, my arms secured tightly behind me and the security guards I had once relied on now stared at me with expressions full of hostility.
And there, Owen and Bianca stood aside, sneering triumphantly at me!
I struggled in the ropes and screamed at the security guards who stood by, watching in silence.
“Why! Why are you tying me up? They’re the ones who are trying to kill me! They’re
the murderers!”
One of the security guards looked at me with visible disgust.

With an icy tone, he spoke, “What are you shouting for? This man said he watched you refuse to help your mother–in–law during the earthquake. You let her die right in front of your own eyes. A woman as vicious as you should be kneeling at her grave, apologizing for your sin.”
As soon as the security guard opened his mouth, several other guards joined in, insulting me.
“What the hell! How could he end up marrying a woman like you? You only care about running away. Your own mother–in- law was dying, but you didn’t even try to help her!” one of the guards yelled.
“Exactly! This man is right. She should be tied up and taken to the tombstone, where she can apologize for what she has done!”
another guard chimed in.
Owen, who was standing in front of me, took a step closer with fake concern.
“Lily, you were hitting and biting people

just now. I can’t help you even if I wanted to. I promise, I’ll untie you once Mom is properly laid to rest.”
Bianca also wiped away fake tears, looking at me in distress.
“Lily… the earthquake was a natural disaster, but his mother died because you were being selfish. You’re so cruel, but Owen couldn’t bring himself to call the police on you, so you need to apologize to her and let her rest in peace.”
“Go away! You two liars, stop blaming me for things I didn’t do! I didn’t kill your mother. She framed me!”
Slap!
Before I could say more, Owen’s hand shot out and the sharp sound of his slap echoed through the air.
“That’s enough! My mother said it herself before she died. How could you say that she framed you? You’re just making excuses now because she’s gone and there’s

no proof! Stop testing my limits, Lily!”
“Lily… Please, stop resisting. It’s pointless now. Mrs. Miller is still waiting to be
buried…”
The tall man, who seemed to be the leader of the security guards, stepped forward as he waved his hand dismissively.
“Everyone, let’s finish what we started. Help Mr. Miller drag this crazy woman to the cemetery.”
A group of security guards, who were clueless about the truth, followed his orders, believing they were doing the right thing. They grabbed me, pulling me toward my mother–in–law’s grave.
It was almost noon by then and the cemetery was beginning to empty out. Many people who had come to pay their respects and staff were starting to leave.
Along the way, people could not help but stare and whisper as I was dragged past them.

“Isn’t that the crazy woman who ran down the mountain earlier? She got caught after all.”
“Yeah, she’s been causing trouble. It’s good they stopped her before she hurt anyone else!”
“Oh, dear. How unlucky the Miller family is for having a daughter–in–law like her. They can’t even have a peaceful burial!”
