Chapter 10
When they were teenagers, Owen Miller and Bianca Morgan shared a young, innocent love.
They confessed their feelings to each other the summer after high school and made plans to attend the same university together.
Owen was thrilled, imagining a future filled with college life and romance. Unfortunately, everything changed suddenly.
Bianca’s family business went bankrupt and her parents decided to take her abroad to study.
The two were forced to separate, but before leaving, Bianca promised Owen that she would return here to marry him once she finished her college abroad.
So, Owen waited for four long years. But after she graduated, Bianca did not return

since she had found a boyfriend abroad.
At that time, I had loved Owen in silence for years and seeing him heartbroken, I finally gathered the courage to confess my feelings.
He accepted without hesitation and we married quickly, though we had not been in a normal romantic relationship.
I knew he did not love me as deeply as I loved him, but I held onto the hope that someday, he might return my feelings for
him.
After our marriage, I loved Owen with all my heart. He was not particularly affectionate, but he was not cruel either. In short, he just did not love me.
When it came to having children, he always avoided the subject and it was his own decision not to have one. To ease the pressure from my mother–in–law, who kept urging us to have a child, I lied. I told her that I had health issues that made it

difficult to get pregnant.
Then, just a short while ago, everything suddenly changed again. Bianca suddenly returned from abroad, saying she had broken up with her boyfriend.
From the moment she came back, Owen
fell back in love with her as if no time had
passed. My mother–in–law, too, had never stopped seeing Bianca as her “real” daughter–in–law.
After Bianca returned here, my mother–in-
law‘ s dissatisfaction with me as her
daughter–in–law grew stronger each day. Yet, I never expected her resentment to go so far as to plan my death, allowing Bianca to step into my place.
Owen truly is his mother’s son. Both share
a stubbornness and a ruthlessness that
knows no limits. They were willing to use any means necessary to get what they wanted.
In the end, both mother and son paid the

price for their extreme personalities and obsessions.

As for Bianca, I could not quite decide if she deserved pity or condemnation. In her previous life, she tragically took her own life, setting herself on fire because Owen did not come to comfort her.
In this life, fate was no kinder to her. She died at Owen’s hands. Perhaps she and Owen were two sides of the same coin, both of them ensnared by their own toxic
ways.
I could finally feel relief in this life. Somehow, I managed to survive and escape the deadly traps set for me.
For the rest of my life, I would treasure my own life more than I had ever done and live
a life that was truly my own.
