Chapter Ten
Freya’s POV
The evening air carried the earthy scent of the forest, mingling with the faint hint of ash from the fire pit outside. My phone buzzed on the table, and I glanced at the
screen.
“Freya, my child and I will live in this grand Pack house that our alpha secured for us,” Lila‘ s message read. Her arrogance was palpable, but the ache in my chest had dulled into a hollow throb.
I didn’t respond. Instead, I turned to the small wooden chest near the window–a box filled with keepsakes Kade had given me over the years. Pink scarves, a bracelet etched with a wolf motif, and even a diamond pendant shaped like a crescent moon. Pink had always been his favorite for me, a color I had once cherished because of him.

Now, it felt like poison.
Piece by piece, I photographed the items and listed them for sale on a trading app. The act was methodical, almost
mechanical, but it gave me a sense of control in the chaos. These trinkets had once symbolized love, but now they were simply weights I needed to shed to free myself.
The next morning, another message from Lila lit up my phone.
“Freya, Kade hasn‘ t aged a day since we got together two years ago. Do you think it’s true?”
Attached were photos of him asleep, his face serene and wolf–like features softened under moonlight. The dates at the bottom of each picture stretched across the last two years–two years I had spent wondering why the bond between us had frayed.

Her brazenness knew no bounds.
I closed the message and opened a drawer in my study. Inside was a bundle of letters I had written to Kade over the years- confessions of love, dreams, and promises. Each one was a piece of my heart I had willingly given to him.
But that man was gone.
With trembling hands, I tore the letters apart, their once–sacred words now meaningless fragments. The sound of paper ripping echoed in the quiet room, an almost primal catharsis. I carried the
shreds outside to the fire pit and struck a match.
The flames licked at the scraps, devouring them hungrily. As the smoke rose, a weight lifted from my chest. It was a small freedom, but a necessary one.
On the third day, Lila struck again.
This time, she sent an image of a 4D ultrasound.

“Freya, you studied fine arts, didn’t you? You must know about portraits. Does the baby look more like me or Kade?”
The message came with a flood of photos- her and Kade together in distant lands, under golden sunsets and snow–kissed mountains. My wolf growled, the sound rumbling in my chest. She wanted to push me, to see how much more I could endure.
But I wouldn’t break.
I walked back to the study and pulled out a leather–bound album. It was filled with photos of Kade and me, moments captured during birthdays, anniversaries, and moonlit hunts. Memories of a life I thought
was real.
Without hesitation, I tore through the album, page after page. Each rip was a declaration–a refusal to let those memories bind me any longer. The torn pieces were all over the floor, what remained of a love that had turned to
ashes.

I picked the torn pieces into a trash bag and carried them outside, dumping all of them in the bin. The moon hung high above, casting its cold light on the forest, a silent witness to my change.
But even as I severed these ties, a deep unease settled in my bones. Lila‘ s games weren‘ t random; they were calculated. She wasn’t just trying to hurt me–she was trying to provoke something darker. And I was not sure how much longer I could hold back this part of me.

On the fourth day, Kade stood by the doorway, adjusting his jacket. His scent, usually comforting, now felt suffocating.
“I need to leave for a few days,” he said. casually.
I crossed my arms, keeping my voice steady. “Where are you going? And who‘ s accompanying you?”
His brows furrowed, clearly caught off guard. “Why the sudden curiosity about my work?”
For years, I’d trusted him blindly, never questioning his comings and goings. But now, I wasn‘ t the same woman he‘ d grown comfortable deceiving.
After a moment of hesitation, he softened and pulled me into a quick embrace. “It’s just a trip to another pack‘ s territory. My

His words were meant to reassure me, but the familiar pull of deceit lurked beneath
them.
Moments later, my phone buzzed. Lila.

I stared at the message, feeling nothing but a strange calmness. The wolf within me stirred, its growl low and simmering, but I silenced it. Instead, I smiled faintly and walked back to Kade.
“Let me help you with your coat,” I said, my tone light.

He looked surprised but allowed me to assist. As he stepped into his boots, I leaned close and whispered, “Goodbye, Kade.”
His steps faltered briefly, but he dismissed it as my usual melancholy.
The morning of my departure arrived swiftly. The moon had long set, and dawn broke with a cold stillness that mirrored my resolve. I loaded the last of my belongings into the car. My chest felt
lighter, even if the scars of betrayal still lingered.
Just as I was about to leave, Kade‘ s name lit up my phone.
“Freya,” he said, his voice tinged with panic. “Why did you list all the gifts I gave you on the trading app?”
I smirked, knowing he’d seen the pink scarf, bracelet, and crescent moon pendant for sale. His concern wasn‘ t about me–it

was about his pride.
“I don‘ t like those things anymore,” I replied evenly. “I used to love pink because it was your favorite. But people change.”
He exhaled in relief, his panic subsiding. “I was so worried, my love. I thought you were upset with me. Listen, since you don‘ t like pink anymore, I’ll stop buying it. Tell me what color you prefer, and I‘ 11 bring you something special when I
return.”
The sweetness in his words was so real, almost convincing, but the wolf inside me saw the truth.
Before I dropped the call, I added, “Oh, and remember to open the gift I left for you today.”
At the airport, I watched them from the second–floor observation deck,as I looked down at the people arriving below. My senses sharpened, and the faint scent of

my husband’s perfume reached me. My eyes followed the trail until I spotted him.
He walked through the terminal, hand in hand with Lila. Even behind the sunglasses and masks, his frame, his stride- everything about him was unmistakable.
Lila giggled at something he said, clinging to his arm like a predator staking her
claim.
The staff‘ s voice over the intercom broke my trance. “Final boarding for Flight 37 to Crescent Ridge.”
I took a final look at the man I had spent ten years loving, ten years sacrificing for, ten years believing in.
He didn’t see me, and he wouldn’t.
Turning away, I walked to the boarding gate without a glance back. As the doors closed behind me, I felt something shift deep within–a severing of the bond that had chained me to him.

Kade’s POV
The tires screeched as I pulled into the driveway of the packhouse. My wolf stirred, restless, his unease matching mine. I silenced him with a low growl. Three days. Three days of extra attentiveness to Lila’s whining, neediness, and constant need to remind me of the pregnancy she
held over me.
“I will wait here for you,” she said, her arms folded dramatically over her stomach.” I need to check with the Omega about the meeting we missed anyway”
“Fine, you do that.” I didn’t look at her as I closed the door and took the steps two at a time. At least she remembers, she is my Beta I thought.
The house was quiet. Too quiet. No faint hum of Freya moving through the rooms. No comforting scent of lavender and wild

roses. My chest tightened.
“Freya?” I called, my voice echoing down the hallway. The sound bounced back at me, mocking.
Nothing.
I inhaled deeply, searching for her scent. It was faint, almost nonexistent. My wolf growled low in my mind, uneasy.
“Freya!” My voice rose as I moved through the house, each empty room. feeding my growing dread. By the time. Mrs. Amelia appeared at the doorway, bags of groceries in hand, my patience had snapped.
“Where is she?” I barked, gripping her shoulders. My claws pressed lightly against her skin, and she flinched.
“Alpha, 1–I thought you knew,” she stammered, her eyes wide. “She said she was leaving.”
“Leaving?” The word stuck in my throat,

foreign and wrong. “What do you mean, leaving?”
“She said it was a long trip.” Mrs. Amelia hesitated, her voice trembling. “She told me to remind you to… to open the gift she left.”
My wolf snarled, shaking me to the core. I stormed into the bedroom, Freya‘ s lingering scent teasing me, mocking me. On the nightstand, an envelope sat with my name written in her soft, familiar script.
I snatched it up, my claws ripping the paper as I unfolded the note.
Kade,
This is my final gift: freedom. You chose your path, and now I’ve chosen mine. The mate bond that once held us together will soon be no more.

The paper crumpled in my hands, my wolf‘ s howl ripping through my chest. I moved back, the final line of our mate bond dragging weakly, empty and broken.
The bed was untouched, her side cold and barren. The closet hung open, its emptiness mocking me. Her dresses, her shoes, even her favorite scarf–all gone. I yanked open drawers, finding only a void where her things used to be.
My fist slammed into the doorframe, splintering the wood. The pain was dull, a mere echo of the chaos inside me.
“Mrs. Amelia!” I barked again.
The housekeeper appeared seconds later, her face pale, her hands trembling.

“Enough.” My voice cut through her rambling, sharp and cold. Her fear hung heavy in the air, but I didn’t care.
Freya had no one in the pack. No confidants. No allies. She had been alone, just as I had let her be. And now, she has disappeared.
My claws scraped against the glass as frustration burned through me. My phone felt heavy and useless in my hand as I scrolled through my contacts, looking for someone, anyone.
The names on the screen blurred together, each one useless. Overcome with rage, I hurled the phone across the room. It shattered against the wall, pieces scattering like the pieces of the bond we once shared.
My wolf whimpered, a sound I had never

“She’s left me,” I murmured, the words tasted like vinegar on my tongue.
I realized then that house wasn’t the only thing that felt empty, my heart did too.

Kade’s POV
Freya’s Rejection really surprised me.
I picked up the letter again, what prompted this?
My wolf snarled, tearing at my mind like a rabid beast. Did she know? Did Freya know about my betrayal with Lila?
“How?” The word escaped in a broken rasp, my throat tight.
I thought back to the night she asked me, Do you still remember our mating vows? Her voice had trembled, her eyes glassy with unshed tears. I’d given her an answer, thoughtlessly reciting the words: Between you and me, there will be no betrayal, no lies, no change of heart.
And I had betrayed her anyway.
“She knew all along,” I whispered, the realization cutting like a blade. Freya had

But one question burned brighter than the rest: How had she found out?
My instinct pushed me outside, I wasn’t thinking–I was moving, driven by some unknown reason.
I looked up and saw her.
Lila.
She sat in my car, her phone glowing in the darkness. She didn’t belong here. She never had.
My steps slowed, my wolf sharpening hist focus. The faint light illuminated her smug expression, her thumb scrolling lazily across the screen.
And then I saw it.

Something inside me broke free. My hands held the car door, the metal groaning under my strength as I threw it open and pulled out a golf club from the backseat.

Freya’s POV
Ten years had passed since I left Stone Fang behind, trading chaos and pain for peace and freedom. Stone Ridge has become my sanctuary. Here, the snow- covered mountains and forests that go on for days whisper a song that calms my
restless wolf.
I was given a new life, a new pack, and even a second–chance mate, Liam. He wasn’t like Kade–not overbearing or ruthless. He was steady, gentle, and everything I needed to rebuild. Together, we have built a quiet, fulfilling life. While I still sometimes remember my past, it no longer had the power to affect my future.
That evening, Liam and I were preparing to go for a run under the full moon. Stone Ridge pack was smaller, more family than political, and the runs were sacred moments of unity. I was trying the clasp of

Liam opened it to reveal Kara, a distant cousin from Stone Fang. My heart jolted. I hadn’t seen anyone from my old pack since the day I left.
“Kara?” I said, stepping forward. “What are you doing here?”
She smiled warmly, though her eyes held a sadness that unsettled me. “Freya, it’s been too long. I was passing through and thought I’d visit. I hope I’m not
intruding.
وو
“Of course not,” Liam said, stepping aside to let her in.
We sat in the living room, the fire crackling softly as Kara shared stories of the old pack. I listened with mixed emotions- curiosity and wariness. Stone Fang was no longer my home, but it would always be a part of me.
As the conversation turned, Kara hesitated,

“There’s something you should know,” she said, her voice quieter now. “About Kade.”
My wolf stirred uneasily. Even after all this time, his name still had the power to awaken something in me.
“What about him?” I asked, keeping my

“He’s gone,” Kara said, her gaze meeting mine. “Kade was sentenced to life imprisonment. He killed Lila.”
The words were like a shock to me, stealing

“What?” I whispered.

“He changed after you left,” Kara continued. “It was like a part of him died. The bond you two shared… it broke him. And when Lila pushed him too far…” She trailed off, her words lingering in the air

Liam reached for my hand, his touch keeping me sane. I glanced at him, his steady presence a reminder of the life I had

Liam followed her to the door, and when he came back, he pulled me into a hug.
“Are you okay?” he asked, his voice low but soothing.
I nodded, laying my head on his chest. “I am. It’s just… a lot to process.
