Chapter 7
She was all arrogance, not a trace of
warmth.
“Enough!”
“Stop talking!”
“Get out of the car!”
Seeing her cross her arms and act all high and mighty, refusing to leave, Keith lost his patience.
He yanked the door open and pulled her out of the car.
“Keith, have you lost your mind?! You’re doing this to me because of that bitch!?”
She stumbled onto the road, her hair a mess, screaming at the top of her lungs. She grabbed onto his arm, trying to stop him from walking away.
“Get lost!” But Keith didn’t care anymore. He shoved her hard.

She fell to the ground, but he didn’t even glance back.
He climbed into the car, slammed the door, and sped off without a second thought.
As he drove, all he could think about was Reese—the one who had been by his side all these years.
Back when his schedule was so brutal that he’d been skipping meals and developed a bad stomach, she had been the one to cook. for him.
Every day, she made sure he ate something that wouldn’t hurt his stomach. It had been years since he’d felt that pain, all thanks to her.
She cared for him every day–making his favorite meals in different ways and being there when he was down, doing whatever she could to make him smile.
Even though she had always been
Chrisley’s stand–in, Reese was the one who
cared for him when he needed it most.

But the truth was, Chrisley had never done anything close to what her stand–in had done for him.
“Babe, I’m sorry,” he muttered. “You’re not a
substitute. You’re not a stand–in to me
anymore.”
His foot pressed harder on the gas. He needed to get home to her.
The second he parked, he bolted out of the car and ran straight to her room. For some reason, he’d felt it the moment he left earlier—a sinking feeling that she might
not be there when he came back.
“Babe, I’m home!”
He threw the door open, hoping she’d still be lying in bed like she always was.
But the bed was empty. Just a neatly folded
blanket left behind.
His expression froze instantly.
“Babe! Where are you? Babe!”

He searched the whole house–every bedroom, and even the garden outside, even though it was the middle of the night.
But she was gone.
That’s when he finally noticed the papers on the coffee table. His hands trembled as
he picked them up. The words [Divorce] stared back at him.
It felt like someone had ripped the air from his lungs. He stood there, unable to move.
Reese’s POV
I left the big city and came back to my hometown. It’s just a small, quiet place far from all the chaos.
My parents died when I was little, but my grandma raised me here. This place is still full of memories–it’s the only place that
makes me feel calm.
Our house is near the beach. When I was a
kid, I used to sit on the white sand and
stare at the waves for hours. Grandma

always had to call me in for dinner.
But when I was 18, she passed away too.
After that, I was alone.
That was also the year I left for college. I worked hard to pay for my tuition, determined to survive on my own.
Not long after graduating, I met Keith.

He was the first person in years who made me feel cared for.
That was why I fell in love with him
completely. He became my everything—the
