Chapter 8
He was supposed to be the light in my life, the warmth I had always longed for.
But in the end, I realized I was just fooling myself. That light? It wasn’t real.
Not only did he treat me as Chrisley’s stand–in, but he was also the one who killed our baby.
He didn’t just take the light away—he dragged me into an even darker place.
The thought of our baby brought fresh. tears to my face. The sea breeze stung my cheeks as it carried my pain.
Even if Keith didn’t love me, even if I was nothing but a substitute for him, my baby was innocent.
If my baby had been born, at least I’d have someone in this world who was truly mine.
But now? That chance was gone.

Chapter 8
To keep myself from drowning in
loneliness, I went to town and got a golden retriever. Having the dog around didn’t fix
everything, but the house didn’t feel so
empty anymore.
Then, out of nowhere, Keith showed up.
He actually found my hometown.
I had never told him where I was from–not
once in the years we had been together. There was no family left here, no reason to bring it up.
“Reese!”
One day, while I was sitting by the sea, lost in thought, I suddenly heard his voice. behind me.
For a moment, I didn’t react. I thought I had imagined it.
But when he ran up to me, confirming it
was me, he smiled with joy.
Seeing him again, I was stunned. He

the years of dieting for acting, he had lost so much weight he didn’t even look like himself anymore.
The moment he realized it was really me, his eyes lit up, and he reached out to hug
- me.
But I dodged before he could touch me.
My dog started barking like crazy, its eyes full of caution and anger.
“Don’t come any closer!” I glared at him, stepping back quickly.
His face fell, and I saw the sadness in his eyes. When he spoke, his voice was hoarse,
almost broken.
“Babe, why are you doing this? Why did you leave? Why did you file for divorce? Do you even know how hard I’ve been looking for you? I’ve been across half the country trying to find you!”
His voice cracked like he thought he was the victim here.

I looked at him, cold and unflinching. “Isn’t this exactly what you wanted?”
“You married me to be Chrisley’s stand–in, didn’t you? Isn’t that what you two planned? That once her contract ends, you’d divorce me and marry her?”
As I said this, his lips started to tremble, his face turning pale.
Clearly, he didn’t know that Chrisley had already told me everything. He still thought I was clueless–still thought I’d play along like a fool.
“Reese, please listen to me! I don’t feel that way anymore!” he said, his voice desperate.
“All these years, it’s been you—you’re the one who’s been by my side, not Chrisley!
“I’ve fallen for you, Reese. It’s you I love now–not her!”
He tried his best to explain, hoping I would believe him.
But after all the lies he had told me over

I couldn’t help but laugh bitterly. “Keith, I’m sorry, but you’ve lied to me too many times.”
