Chapter 10
“I can never love you again!” I snapped. “You’re the one who hurt me the most in this life!”
That day, Keith eventually left.
I don’t know if he gave up or just decided to stop persuading me to come back to him.
All I knew was life returned to its usual calm, with just me and my golden retriever until one day in late August.
I was walking through town with my dog when someone tapped me on the shoulder.
“Reese? Oh, it really is you! Girl, do you have any idea? Keith has been looking everywhere for you!”
I turned around to see an old childhood friend of mine, her face lighting up with
excitement.
At first, seeing an old friend made me feel a small spark of happiness.

But when I heard what she said, I couldn’t help but frown.

“He has nothing to do with me anymore,” I replied flatly.
She gave me a knowing smirk and blurted out, “Oh my gosh, Reese, how could you be so dumb? He’s Keith Cyrus! A former movie star! You actually married a man like that— girl, how could you bring yourself to leave him?”
I gave a bitter laugh, unwilling to explain myself.
Seeing my reaction, she must’ve realized she had upset me because she quickly changed her tone.
“Well, maybe it’s for the best that you left him,” she said hurriedly. “If you hadn’t, you
might’ve been dragged into trouble now that he’s in jail.”
“In jail?” I asked.
Her words caught me off guard, and I

stared at her in confusion.
Seeing my surprise, her jaw dropped. “Wait -don’t tell me you don’t know! You haven’t heard about how he hit Chrisley with his car and put her in a coma?”
“He hit Chrisley?” I repeated. I’d been offline for weeks, so I hadn’t seen or heard anything.
She nodded enthusiastically. “It happened just a few days ago! Chrisley posted some big, dramatic update on X, basically calling Keith her stupid bootlicker. And then that same night–dang!-she got into a car accident. I heard the impact throw her like 15 meters or something!”
“If it wasn’t for the doctors acting fast, she probably wouldn’t have made it.”
“And Keith didn’t try to run or anything. He just stayed right there at the scene, waiting for the cops.”
“When people saw him, they were shocked. He looked like a ghost–like skin and

bones! Dude’s been MIA for over a month, and now he looks like that…”
She kept rattling off every detail, her words. spilling out in an almost giddy rush.
But weirdly enough, I didn’t feel a thing.
It was just like overhearing gossip about people I didn’t even know–just some noise that had absolutely nothing to do with me.
