Chapter 4
When I regained consciousness, I found myself lying in a hospital
room.
To my surprise, Archer was by my side.
Seeing me awake, his previously dull eyes instantly brightened, and he excitedly signed to me:
“Darling, you’re finally awake. I didn’t mean to leave you behind yesterday. Ethan’s been out of town and can’t take care of Violet. and she’s pregnant again so she can’t be stressed. I had to take her to the hospital first, so… please don’t be angry, okay?”
Archer used to always use the excuse that Violet was his niece–in–law and that as her uncle–in–law, he should take extra care of her. He would always use this relationship as a reason to show concern for Violet. Whenever I was dissatisfied, he would always say how could he have any intentions towards his niece–in–law, telling me not to overthink things.
Now I realize it was all lies.
I
suppressed the hurt in my heart and said nothing. Archer’s eyes flashed with a hint of disappointment, then he signed:
“Darling, I really didn’t mean to yesterday. You know how much the Harrington family values their offspring. If anything happened to Violet’s baby, they’d definitely blame you. Even your parents wouldn’t let you off the hook. I only did it because I was afraid you’d get caught up in it…”

His expression was so sincere, as if things had truly happened the way he described.
But just moments ago, Violet had sent me a photo.
It was a picture of Archer hunched over Violet’s bedside, writing his ten thousandth love letter to her.
“Your husband is quite the romantic. He’s written me ten thousand love letters. He didn’t even close his eyes all night yesterday just to watch over me. The servants only told him you were about to wake up, and that’s when he went to find you.”
“Felicity, you’ll never measure up to me. If you’re smart, you’ll bow out gracefully.”
I opened my mouth, about to say something, when the door was pushed open and a man walked in.
He glanced at me before addressing Archer right in front of me:
“Mr. Harrington, we’ve prepared the press conference as you instructed. When the time comes, we can directly announce that. the Harrington Enterprises will be given to Ms Winters.”
Archer nodded with satisfaction, then added:
“Very good. If Madam asks about this matter, just tell her the Harrington Enterprises had a major slip–up and went bankrupt.”
After saying this, he made a hand gesture towards me with a worried expression:
“Darling, there’s an emergency at the company. I need to go handle it. Wait for me here.”

Chapter 4
This was the first time I’d seen someone go to such lengths to put on an act for another person. If my hearing hadn’t already recovered, I might have been fooled by him for life.
Since that was the case, why should I continue to be hung up on him? It would be better to vanish from his world forever.
So after Archer left, I left behind divorce papers and departed.
Before leaving, I deleted all of Archer’s contact information, along with blocking and deleting Violet’s and my birth parents‘ contact info as well.
I wanted to say a final goodbye to them all, severing any remaining
ties.
At the press conference, Archer made a show of handing the Harrington Enterprises over to Violet.
The crowd below erupted in cheers, with Mom and Dad among them, clapping and shouting approval the whole time. After the press conference, Archer wanted to personally escort Violet home; but just as they reached the entrance, his path was suddenly blocked by his good friend Rylan who popped out of nowhere. “What a coincidence, Archer! Out playing with your niece–in–la again? How come you never bring your wife out to play? I was hoping to ask her about her ears, wondering if she can hear more clearly now.”
Rylan was Archer’s childhood friend and also my attending physician, responsible for treating my ears.
Hearing this question, Archer’s face instantly changed, and he asked Rylan in disbelief:

What did you say? Felicity can hear now?”
Rylan blinked, puzzled, and asked in return:
“Why are you making that face? Her ears could hear sounds
. yesterday. Didn’t she tell you?”
