Chapter 43: Mr. Cassius Stepped In, Turning the Tables
This was nothing short of dropping a bombshell.
Previously, the media had speculated that someone was trying to bring down the national medical treasure, Mr. Gray.
But no one truly believed it.
After all, pulling off something like this would take a lot of effort–resources, manpower, and money.
But now, no one could deny it.
If it weren’t for Gemma, the “X–ray vision” of sorts, they would’ve definitely succeeded.
And that’s why they were furious now!
As people gathered to celebrate, they launched a cyberattack, shutting down the hospital’s power system, turning the place into a hell!
Gemma clenched her fists, her face hard, her heart pounding in her chest.
Suddenly, a small hand rugged at her sleeve.
Her anger evaporated in an instant as she looked down at Noah.
At his silent urging, she glanced toward Cassius.
Somehow, the man had already settled in, sitting with a laptop open on his lap.
His long, sharp fingers flew over the keyboard in a blur, his movements almost hypnotic.
“Uncle Cassius is really amazing.” Noah whispered. “Gemma, don’t be scared. We’ll protect you.”
Noah gave her a thumbs–up, a mischievous grin on his face.
Gemma’s tension melted away. She knew the hospital had taken steps to handle the situation, but with everything on the line, she didn’t dare let her guard down.
Suddenly, a loud commotion came from outside.
“Who’s Gemma? Kneel in front of the hospital doors now!”
“Our oxygen’s out. My father’s dying! Get her out here!”
“Gemma, where are you? I’ll kneel in front of her, whatever it takes. Please! Kneel for everyone’s sake.”
“If anything happens to my wife or kid, I swear I’ll kill that Gemmal”
Lindsay, who had originally planned to go home and rest, suddenly appeared in the raging crowd.
She knew exactly what was going on and couldn’t help but think that maybe fate was on her side after all. She’d thought the gap between her and Gemma was unbridgeable.
But now, an opportunity had dropped right in her lap.
“I’ll go check if she’s in this ICU.”
As soon as the crowd saw her in a white coat, their demeanor softened.
Lindsay looked at the ICU door, then called out, “Gemma, are your in there?”
“I know you’re inside.”
“You must’ve heard all this noise. The patient’s family is putting pressure on the hospital. So many innocent lives depend on you. Can you really stand by and do nothing?”
Inside the room, Gemma had already formed a plan to calm the family, but Lindsay’s interruption left her speechless.

“Emotional blackmail? Who does she think she is? I’ll take care of her!” Cedric growled.
Gemma rubbed her forehead.

Honestly, she didn’t feel like she had any serious beef with Lindsay.
Why was Lindsay always out to get her? It was like she couldn’t wait to trample her into the dirt.
Before she could say anything, the voices outside grew louder again.
“Gemma, come out now! I’ll kneel, is that enough for you? The patient’s life is at stake!”
“See? Kneeling is no big deal, come on, give up your pride for a second.”
Cedric couldn’t hold back anymore. “This bitch. I’m going to deal with her.”
Gemma grabbed his arm, stopping him.
“If you open the door, those people will rush in and cause trouble for Mr. Gray.”
There were only seven or eight people outside a moment ago, but thanks to Lindsay, dozens had gathered.
If the ICU door wasn’t as solid as it was, it would’ve been kicked down by now.
“Are you really going to let her slander you like this? If this goes on, you won’t be seen as the angel saving lives anymore. You’ll be the devil who’s responsible for people dying!”
Gemma’s eyes darkened, a cold rage flashing across her delicate face.
Just as she was about to step out, a hand grabbed her sleeve.
She turned around.
Cassius, one hand still on the keyboard, the other now gripping her firmly
“You promised, you’d trust me.”
Six words.
Like a calming spell, they subdued Gemma’s emotions, as if a violent storm had been stopped in its tracks.
“Mr. Cassius, they’re all slandering me.”
Brooke was stunned.
Ms. Kelestine looked serious, but somehow, it sounded like she was telling on a family member.
Cedric and the others were equally shocked
Gemma and Mr. Cassius–were they really that close?
Cedric was especially rattled.
After the shock, his expression turned complicated.
Cassius‘ dark eyes lifted, locking onto Gemma’s.
“They’ll get what’s coming to them.”
Outside.
Someone had somehow gotten their hands on a fire axe.
“Movel I’m smashing this door down! I want that Gemma dead!”
The person’s eyes were bloodshot, full of murderous intent
The crowd instinctively stepped aside.
As the fire axe was raised, the sprinkler system above them suddenly activated.
A deluge of water poured down.
“AHHHHH!”
Everyone turned into soaked rats.
Lindsay, who had been kneeling, suddenly remembered something, but before she could react, someone shoved her, and
she was trampled. Her leg snapped, pain shooting through her, making her tremble.
As the crowd scattered, the “EMERGENCY EXIT sign nearby exploded,
“Ouch, that hurts!”

Chaos erupted outside.
Inside the ICU, it was eerily quiet.
Cassius‘ fingers gently pressed “Enter,” and the screen on the computer shifted instantly.
Next, a man appeared on the screen. He was sitting in a gamer chair, picking his nose, with pimples all over his face. humming a tune, smug as could be.
Suddenly, he seemed to sense something. His hands dropped to the keyboard.
The next moment!
His smug expression vanished, replaced by sheer panic.
“No way!”
“The program I implanted–why is it all gone? This can’t be happening!”
He frantically banged the keyboard, pulling at his hair in frustration.
But it was useless!
“Shit!”
The man stood, almost smashing the keyboard in his fury.
“Who did this? Who the hell is behind this?”
“No way! There’s no good hacker in N. city!”
Perhaps his words gave him a false sense of security, because he started typing furiously again.
But his computer, the one thing he was proud of, no longer obeyed him!
Cassius, on the other hand, was completely relaxed, as if he had all the time in the world. He casually enjoyed his coffee.
The screen shifted again, showing the man’s entire room in full view.
At the same time, the footage was broadcast to every screen in sight: shopping mall displays, bus monitors, subway ads, and
more.
The family members who had been trying to cause trouble outside were now silent, staring up at the screens in disbelief. And then!
The lights in the man’s room flickered, followed by the pipes and gas lines bursting wide open!
“AHHHHH!*
The man was flung back by the explosion, crashing into the wall, and when he hit the ground, he coughed up blood.
