Chapter 83: Marcus: I Absolutely Don’t Love Gemma
Marcus was so furious that he hurled his phone to the ground.
It shattered into pieces.
Call forcibly ended.
His fists clenched tightly, the veins at his temples throbbing,
When they went to finalize the divorce, he thought, “Fine. At least I won’t have to carry the ‘bumpkin husband‘ label
anymore.
But after leaving Gemma, his life became a chaotic mess.
The trivial, endless domestic chores frustrated him to no end.
Meanwhile, Gemma seemed to be thriving. She even saved Mr. Gray and shot to fame overnight.
He thought he was being magnanimous–lowering himself to give her an olive branch.
She’d taken the hint and played along. But.
Things didn’t go as he expected.
The more he thought about it, the more annoyed he became.
Right then, Cedric showed up to discuss a collaboration. When he opened the door, the mess inside startled him.
“Marcus, are you okay?”
Cedric immediately called the secretary to clean up, giving Marcus a curious look.
“Didn’t we handle the online uproar? The stocks are stabilizing too. What’s got you in a funk?”
Marcus stayed silent.
But the frustration inside him kept building.
Cedric sighed. “If you’re free, let’s go grab a drink.”
It was only midday, and Marcus usually avoided drinking, especially with afternoon meetings lined up..
Surprisingly, he nodded.
Cedric blinked in shock, but quickly booked a private room.
After a few rounds of drinks. Marcus was slightly tipsy, his gaze unfocused.
“Cedric ”
“Yeah?”
“That girl who dumped you after two months–what’s your plan for her?”
Cedric had once been a notorious playboy, never keeping fewer than five girlfriends at a time.
That girl, a college student, broke up with him the moment she discovered his double life.
At the time, Cedric had been livid, vowing to ruin her.
“Man,” Cedric scratched the back of his head sheepishly, “I totally forgot about her.
I said I’d mess with her, but honestly, I was just bitter.
Think about it. I always dumped them when I got bored. But she dared to break up with me at my peak interest!”
He ground his teeth at the memory.
Clearly, he wasn’t over it
Marcus felt a flicker of understanding
Bitterness, huh?
Maybe that’s what it was.
He’d always been in control.

you even like her?” Marcus asked, fixing Cedric with a sharp look.
Cedric hesitated.
“Of course not. Her family’s background was average.

You guys all made fun of me back then, so I was mad. I pulled a bunch of strings to get her back, just to toss her aside after 1 was done.”

He was just furious that she, a nobody, dared to challenge him.
“But then my grandpa found out and beat the hell out of me.”
Cedric chuckled awkwardly, rubbing his nose. “I switched to someone new after a few days and forgot all about her.”
Marcus frowned
“So, just find someone else?”
Cedric noticed Marcus’s unusually serious expression and felt uneasy.
“Max, why’re you asking me this? Don’t tell me…”
Marcus’s face instantly reverted to his usual cold demeanor. He swirled his glass. “Don’t overthink it. Your old man asked. me to keep an eye on you and make sure you behave.”
Cedric shrank back. “I swear I haven’t done anything!
I’m not even dating anymore. I’m focusing on running the company.

After finishing his drink, Marcus had himself dropped off at Mabel’s apartment
To be honest, he hated how Gemma constantly lingered in his mind.
If swapping women was the solution….
Then he’d give it a shot,
Mabel had been staying home recently. Her building had top–notch security, keeping the haters at bay.
Though the “homewrecker” scandal had been suppressed, the stigma would stick to her forever.
Any public appearance would bring the issue back to haunt her-
Unless Gemma publicly clarified things.
But…
As Mabel hesitated, unsure of her next move, the sound of the door opening startled her.
She rushed over and threw her arms around Marcus.
He reeked of alcohol.
In the past, she would’ve scolded him for drinking too much.
Now, she didn’t dare
“Marcus, thank God you’re here. Those trolls are driving me crazy!”
