Chapter 23 A Kiss on Celeste’s Lips
It felt just like before Celeste had asked for a divorce. Every time Mason came home, the house would be brightly lit.
Celeste would often be sitting on the sofa, sometimes waiting so long that she’d fall asleep.
When she saw him, she’d rub her sleepy eyes and say, “You’re back!”
“Mason.” Celeste looked at him, then stood up. “I need to talk to you. Your phone’s been off.”
Mason’s phone had died, and since he was almost home, he didn’t bother charging it.
“What’s up” Mason walked in with long strides.
Celeste got straight to the point: “I need to borrow some money from you.”
Time was running out, and only Mason had the means to come up with such a large sum so quickly.
“How much? Mason asked.
“One hundred million,” Celeste replied. “I need it now,”
“I’ll have John transfer it to you,” Mason said as he plugged his phone into the charger.
Celeste hadn’t expected Mason to agree so easily. She thought it would take more convincing.
“Aren’t you going to ask what it’s for? Celeste asked, curious.
Mason said, “It doesn’t matter. Half of the family’s money is yours anyway, and you’ve hardly spent anything over the
years.”
“Aren’t you worried I’m trying to transfer assets before the divorce?” Celeste asked.
Mason looked at her, “Transferring assets? And only this much? How about I give you another one hundred million”
Celeste.”
Having money really made a difference–he was so confident,
Mason’s phone turned on. “But I have one condition.”
“What condition“”
“Move back in, and let’s not talk about divorce for now.”
Celeste looked at him, “That’s two conditions.”
Mason replied. “Then I have two conditions.”
Celeste…
What was the point? They were going to divorce eventually.
“Not talking about divorce is impossible. Our relationship is already broken. No, actually, it was always one–sided from the
start.”
Mason said, “Then give it a year. A year to cool off. If you still want a divorce after that, I’ll agree.”
Hearing Mason agree to the divorce, Celeste thought the deal wasn’t too bad. She could just endure a little longer.
“A year is too long. The cooling–off period for a divorce is usually a month. Three months, max,” Celeste
Mason conceded a little, “Six months.”
e countered.
“Three months, Celeste insisted, holding up three fingers. She needed to save someone, and time was running out. It was almost midnight, and without the money, Zero might not survive.
“Or how about this–once I return the money, the deal is off.”
Mason didn’t care about the money, but what if this was a trap?
“I disagree.”
Celeste. “?”
“What if this is a setup? I transfer the money
ney to y
you, and you just send it back to me. I’d be the one losing out.”
Celeste:“…”
She hadn’t even considered that. Mason sure was suspicious,
“Three months, then.” Celeste said.
Mason nodded. “Deal”
Mason hadn’t adjusted to Celeste being gone. These three months would give him time to get used to it.
Mason had John transfer the money to Celeste, and soon ten billion was in her account. Celeste quickly sent it to Jessica Parker to save Zero.
Luckily, it was only 11:30–just in time
Three months of a cooling–off period? She could handle that
She used to revolve around Mason, but now she’d act out every day, pushing his buttons. Let’s see who would cave first! Mason took off his jacket and casually draped it over a chair. “Then let’s start tonight. Don’t leave.”
Celeste hadn’t had much rest over the past few days, with that job taking a toll on her. She was exhausted.
She nodded, “Fine. ”
Mason added. “Thaven’t eaten dinner.
“Sol”
“Make me something, anything.”
Celeste.“…”
Mason was used to ordering her around, wasn’t he?
Celeste sat down on the sofa, “Why should I? I’m not your maid. You go make something, and while you’re at it, make some for me too. I haven’t eaten either.”
Celeste hadn’t just missed dinner–she hadn’t eaten all day. She was beyond hungry.
Mason:“”
He’d never set foot in a kitchen, and now he was supposed to cook?
“Ima bit tired. I’m going to rest for a bit.” With the money secured, Celeste finally relaxed, and the exhaustion hit her hard. Her injuries were still untreated, and her arm was throbbing with pain, but she didn’t want to move. She decided to go to the hospital tomorrow.
Mason saw the weariness in Celeste’s eyes and assumed it was because she’d never worked before. She must not be used to working at X Studio, which is why she was so tired.
He didn’t disturb her and headed to the kitchen himself.
But looking at all the ingredients, Mason had no idea what to do. He tried following a recipe, cleaned the pot, and turned on the stove to heat some oil. Suddenly, the oil started splattering, burning his hand.
When the pan cooled down, Mason threw the prepared ingredients into the pan, but a huge flame shot up, nearly singeing
Mason quickly turned off the stove, realizing he wasn’t cut out for cooking
Cooking for the first time was a nightmare–he now understood how terrifying it could be.
The servants were already asleep, and he wasn’t about to wake them up to cook. He called John and had him order some food from a restaurant.
As he spoke on the phone, Mason walked out of the kitchen.
He looked up and saw Celeste asleep on the sofa.
She was leaning against the cusluons, looking exhausted.
Mason paused, standing there quietly.
It was probably the first time he had seen Celeste look so worn out. There were dark circles under her eyes, she must have been going through a tough time lately.

He was still hovering over her, their faces inches apart. Their eyes met, and Mason felt his heart skip a beat.
“What are you doin-
Before she could finish, Mason, almost instinctively, leaned down and kissed her.
