Chapter 48 Shawn Gets Beaten Badly
“Celeste, since I’m your stepbrother, can’t you lower the price a little?”
“Not a chance, Celeste refused without hesitation.
“Honey, I really want this house,” the woman beside Shawn insisted, clinging to his arm. This was the only unused property in the entire complex, and its location was perfect.
Shawn shot a venomous glare at Celeste, who calmly sipped her tea, and gritted his teeth before agreeing, “Fine, fifteen million it is.”
Celeste smiled faintly and instructed the realtor to prepare the contract.
Even the agent was shocked at how easily she had increased the price by 50%.
The contract was soon signed, and the property was transferred to the woman.
But Celeste owned three properties in Dolphin Bay, and this was just one of them.
“Congratulations, Shawn.”
“Congratulations? For what?”
“For getting a house, of course. Make sure you transfer the money soon.”
With that, Celeste left, moving on to her next task.
Shawn clenched his jaw. He didn’t have fifteen million readily available and would have to borrow some and quietly transfer the rest from the company’s funds, hoping his father wouldn’t find out.
That night, Shawn managed to send over the payment. Celeste snapped a photo of the contract and sent it directly to Thomas.
Last time, Shawn framed her for reporting him, but this time, Celeste was going to show him what real tattling looked like.
“Your son spent fifteen million on a house for another woman, so why do you keep asking Mason for money? Why not ask your son instead?”
When Thomas saw the message, he was stunned. That ungrateful son had spent fifteen million on some woman’s house? How could he have gotten that much money?
After buying the house for the woman, Shawn took her to the hospital and forced her to terminate the pregnancy, finally alleviating his anxiety
about the situation.
It was already late when Shawn returned home, but to his surprise, his father was still sitting in the living room. Shawn walked over and greeted him,
“Dad.”
“Kneel!” Thomas commanded coldly.
“Dad, what did I do wrong? Why do I need to kneel?”
Thomas slapped Shawn hard across the face, sending him crashing to the ground. “Dad, what’s wrong with you? I’m your son, you can’t just hit me whenever you feel like it!”
Thomas grabbed a cane and struck him. “You worthless son of a-!”
At that moment, Margaret rushed downstairs after hearing the commotion. “Honey, what’s going on? Why are you beating our son in the middle of the night?”
“Stay out of this!” Thomas pushed Margaret aside. “Look at what your precious son did! He embezzled fifteen million from the company to buy a house for some woman!”
Shawn’s face turned pale. How did his father find out?
“Dad, didn’t you tell me to handle that situation?”
“I told you to handle it, yes–but not like this! Do you have any idea how much money that is?” Thomas raged.
Margaret, hearing the details, didn’t dare defend Shawn anymore.
Shawn’s eyes burned with anger. “I followed your orders. The money’s already spent, and the house is bought. If you hate me so much, there’s nothing I can do. Go ahead and keep fawning over your precious son–in–law!”
With that, Shawn stormed out of the house.
Clutching his chest, Thomas turned to Margaret. “Look at the mess your son’s created!”
Thomas had wanted Shawn to handle the situation as a test of his abilities. If he couldn’t deal with a small problem like this, how could he manage the company?
There were easier ways to solve the issue–bribing the woman, threatening her family, or even forcing her to the hospital. Any method would’ve been better than wasting 1.5 billion.
Shawn knew his father must have found out through Celeste.
He immediately called her, and she picked up quickly. “Celeste, was it you?”
Without hesitation, Celeste replied, “Yes, it was me.”

“You dare admit it?”
“Why wouldn’t I admit it? But for things I didn’t do, no one can pin the blame on me.”
“You conned me out of so much money and still had the nerve to tell Dad? You’re looking for trouble!”
Celeste’s voice sounded cheerful, “It was just a business deal. Besides, you never told me not to inform Thomas. It’s perfectly normal for a father to know his son bought a house, isn’t it?”
‘You-
“Enjoy your new house, Shawn.”
Shawn was livid. Though Celeste was right–the house was legally his–so if he ever felt frustrated, he could go live there whenever he wanted.
Celeste immediately funneled the fifteen million back into SG’s projects to cover the losses, and with some help from Jessica, they were able to replace the faulty materials. Finally, she could breathe a little easier.
Meanwhile, Tom had been sentenced–ten years.
Jessica was still frustrated. “Only ten years? He should be locked up for life! Embezzling that much money, and he didn’t care about the risks to people’s lives.”
Celeste calmly replied, “We were lucky nothing happened. Since no one was hurt, ten years is all he gets.”
“I guess. But it’s still infuriating!” Jessica huffed.
Celeste wasn’t too bothered. As long as Tom paid the price for his crimes, that was enough.
“How’s the clothing studio going?” Jessica asked.
“Good,” Celeste replied. “We’re launching a new collection soon.”
“That’s great! Want to grab dinner tonight and crash at my place after?” Jessica suggested, checking the time.
Celeste was about to agree when her phone rang.
She frowned–it was Mason.
She hadn’t heard from him since unblocking his number, and now, suddenly, he was calling.
“Who’s that?” Jessica asked.
“Mason,” Celeste said.
“Ex–husband, huh? What does he want?”
“I have no idea.”
Celeste was about to ignore the call, but it persisted.
Annoyed, she answered, “What do you want?”
“Grandma’s coming over tonight for dinner. She’s expecting us. Where are you? I’ll pick you up.”
Ah, so it was time to play the charade again.
“SG.” Since Mason already knew her true identity, Celeste decided there was no need to keep pretending.
“Your ex will come to SG, huh?” Jessica quipped.
Mason, overhearing, thought about how everyone kept calling him “ex.” Shouldn’t he prove that they weren’t divorced yet?
“Yeah,” Celeste said, tossing her phone aside.
“When are you two getting divorced?” Jessica asked.
Celeste sighed, “I’d love to know. I borrowed money from him and promised we’d stay married for three more months. Plus, I need to keep up the act for his grandma.”
Celeste gathered her things, preparing to leave work.
