“What do you mean that she is marrying him!” I yelled at the messenger, jolting from my throne as though I had been stung “Iris is marrying a Lan
The messenger bowed low, trembling at my tone. “Yes, not just any one of them,”
Confusion took over my senses before it sunk in low and hard like a boulder. “She is trarrying the Alpha? She is marrying the bastard that I sent her to kill My blood boiled, scalding beneath my skin–1 knew she stood no chance against the bastard. I had been sure that I would receive the news of her death by his hand. Instead, I get the news of her marrying another man. She dared to marry my enemy.
1 saw red, every nerve in my body thramed. She was unine. She would always be mine. Was she such a whore that she would give herself willingly to another man? I saw her eyes. She loved me with her body and soul. I was master and Alpha. I rejected her, yet she stood by my side. But the moment let her out of my sight, she ran into another man’s arms.
“Kavriel” Lyra’s voice came as her warm fingers trapped around my arm, trying to soothe me, but it did nothing for the first time “Lyra_breathed. I pulled her to me and cradled her head on my chest, chening the solace she always gave me. She was the one I chose. My Luna and mother of my future heir. Yes, the image of Iris with another man, crashed through the wall of calm I tried to erect. How could she!
1 tried pulling away from Lyra, who was still stunned by my outburst, but she held her ground in the face of my irritation. She reached out to cradle my face, her amber eyes searching. “My love,” she whispered. “I am here,” she assured me
I closed my eyes, breathing through my mouth. I let the tension leave my body,
“According to the reports, they are mates” the messenger continued. I froze. I pulled away from Lyra at the speed of lightning. “She is my matet She is no one else’s. 1 screamed, willing the words to be true.
“Leavel” Lyra ordered the messenger at last. He scurried away, while I tried to absorb the information that was trying my insides.
Lyra turned to me, but I did not bother to meet her eye.
“You rejected her for me, Kavriel,” She reminded me, her voice laced with hurt. “You slept with me behind her back for years.” She continued, a 5 though I could forget. “And when the time came you chose me. Then why are you so aggrieved?” She questioned, her voice becoming sharper with each word. I was meant to lash at me, but it did nothing.
I said nothing, the wheels of my mind turning. “She knows too much, I blurt out. “She will betray our pack because of her pettiness. She cannot wed
Lyra’s gue softened just a fraction. “Is that why you are so perplexed?” She asked, stalking closer so that she might reveal our secrets. She chuckled low, her voice soothing once again. “My stepsister is far too dense, this is the same woman who did not know that her lover wanted another woman And there are her mother and brother. She would never endanger them. She would much rather slit her own throat. Foolish thing” Lyra laughed again, threading her fingers through mine.
I nodded, bringing her hand to my lips. I had Lyra “And he would still kill her. I am sure. Her grace will nm out, and he will touch her and kill her.” I placed a gentle hand over Lyra’s stomach. “It is the least she deserves for what she took away from us.” Lyra’s eyes glistened with unshed tears of
gric
“I will give you children. An heir and many more, I promise.” She whispered in the silent calm of the throne room. I had my chosen mate and Luma. Lyra had a strong wolf. We had a great pack. Everything I needed was here. And soon I would hear of Iris death and 1 would be at peace knowing that no other man other than me would own her
I just had to be patient and wait. Then there was a crash and I looked up with Lyra. Someone had barged in. It was the Alpha’s advisor. Lyra’s father. The panic in his eyes was telling. Something was very wrong
“Alpha, it has begun again.”
Stomach dropped. He did not need to tell me what he was referring to.
“That is not possible. It’s already been so long,” but then I heard it.
Behind my advisor, there was an inhuman grond and the clanking of chains. Then it made its appearance, as my guard tried their hardest to pull in back
A Craven
It barred its sharp rotten teeth, his red eyes unfocused. It looked like a wolf but one out of nightmares. With sickly grey looking for, with patches of skin showing beneath Like a deformed creature, is claws, long and jagged, scratched at the stone floor, sending sparks into the air. The sight sent a slaver down my spine, something hadn’t felt in years. The Craven’s presence was a harbinger of doom, a reminder of battles fought and horrors witnessed. The fever curse was back
Secure in commanded. My guardi struggled, but they were well–trained, and with a coordinated effort, they managed to drag the beast back through the door, the sound of its growls echoing through the hall.
Lyra’s grip tightened on my hand, her face pale. “Kavriel, this shouldn’t be happening. The Cravens were sealed away, bound by magic and blood. How could one have escaped?”
Her father, the advisor, stepped forward, his expression grave. “According to the boy’s father.”
“Boy?” I echoed blanching even farther. “That thing was a boy.”

My advisor nodded solemnly. “He was just fourteen.”
It should not have been possible. A Craven that size with such ferocity should have been a full grown man. The fever curse was back with deadly
vengeance.
“You must still have the cure. You can cure him like you did before.” Lyra’s hopeful voice cut through the chaos of my thoughts.
Then it clicked and relief washed over me, in a calming wave. I had Iris’s blood, kept and stored by the best of my Deltas. They had been creating enough tinctures with her blood to heal an entire kingdom. I had given them the order since Iris’s bloodletting. Hope was far from lost. I would win again. I would remind my pack why the moon goddess crowned me Alpha.
“How many
“Nine more.”
have been infected?” 1 asked my advisor.
“Bring them and summon the Deltas. They should bring my cure and be ready to rid my people of this wretched curse.”
“Alphal
I raised my head to see a middle–aged woman in a long black and green robe. The Delta’s attire. And the woman was the head Delta and in her hand was a container. Her expression was scrunched up in distress.
“What is the matter, Delia? Are the tinctures ready?”
“No, no tincture has been prepared.” Her eyes darted around the room, afraid to meet my gaze,
“What have you been doing then? Or do I have to order you to be executed?” I barked.
Instead of answering, she placed the container on the ground and opened it. It was a black viscous liquid that smelt foul
“What is the meaning of this?”
“It’s the blood, Alpha. It suddenly went bad. It cannot be used to cure the fever curse.”
