“The anniversary of your wedding is coming up, isn’t it?”
“Guess what big day that is?”
I stared at these messages without replying, but Joanna didn’t seem to feel awkward or out of place. She just kept sharing with me.
“That day was when I first confessed my feelings to him, and it was also the day we promised to get married in the future.
“I bet he’ll give you a necklace engraved with ‘Anna & Frank; and take you to Azizam for a romantic dinner”

Joanna seemed to know everything about Frank and me, and still, I couldn’t help but hope that it wouldn’t turn out the way she said.
The wedding anniversary came quickly, and I hadn’t seen Frank for several days.
He said every time he came home, I was already asleep, and when I was still asleep the next morning, he was already gone.
But I knew he hadn’t been coming home at all.
As usual, I finished work and walked toward the door, only to see a familiar figure standing there, holding flowers. When he saw me, he smiled and walked toward me.
My colleagues around us teased me.

“Anna, so lucky, your husband is here to pick you up with flowers. You must have married a great guy!”
Hearing their compliments, other colleagues chimed in.
“Honey, I’m here to take you on a date,” Frank’s gentle voice rang out.
He opened the back door for me, and I was puzzled. I always sat in the passenger seat.
It was only when I got into the car that I understood what was going on.
“Anna, hello. I’m Joanna, Frank’s university alumna, Joanna’s sweet voice sounded from the back seat.
I was stunned for a moment, but quickly composed myself and greeted her.

“Anna, sorry for taking your seat. I get motion sickness, and sitting in the back isn’t comfortable for me. I hope you don’t mind,” Joanna said, her tone apologetic.
But her eyes were filled with arrogance, like a victor flaunting her triumph.
“I don’t mind,” I said flatly.
Everything that had happened over the past few days had already taught me what I needed to know, and the small flicker of hope I still had was quickly extinguished.
The moment I saw Joanna in the car, all my hope extinguished.
Frank never explained why he brought Joanna along to celebrate our wedding anniversary.

I didn’t ask where we were going for dinner. Along the way, I listened to the two of them reminiscing about their university days. We went to the same school, but we were in different majors, so I couldn’t really join the conversation, nor did I want to.
Perhaps sensi
my silence, Frank tried to
engage me in conversation.
“Anna, how’s work been lately?”
“It’s fine,” I replied coldly.
“Anna, what kind of work do you do?” Joanna interrupted.
“Clerical work, I answered her politely.
“That sounds easy, not busy at all, right? Unlike us engineers, we’re always tied up
