Rowan’s POV
The real reason why I asked for Harriette to be sent to my office was because I needed to confirm if we were really mates.
After I found out we were mates that night. I left abruptly and questioned every superior being as to why my fated mate right here in my Rogue Pack.
I wanted to go back out there and tell my men to turn her down but that’ll defile every purpose for which the pack was founded. I’d promised not to turn back anyone who needed our help or safety with genuine intentions. Refugees were allowed into the pack only on one criterion; if their intentions were right
All through the night, I didn’t sleep. I tossed and turned around thinking of what I should make of what happened. I stopped thinking too much about it at some point and just slept off.
When she finally came into my office, the bond between us was intense. My eyes sought for hers all through the little conversation we had but she looked elsewhere.
She was beautiful. Stunning if Im to say it clearly. I’m sure the first Luna had nothing on her in terms of beauty but she had this painful look in her eyes.
So painful I could feel my heart being torn apart.
I was clouded with disappointment because she didn’t recognize the matebond for reasons I couldn’t care about but at the same time, I was happy
That made the burden less heavy.
Having a mate was a fucking good thing but it wasn’t for someone as messed up as me.
And I wouldn’t reject her. I wasn’t that heartless to reject a girl who couldn’t even recognize the matebond. That’ll be really despicable and evil. Since she decided to stay in the pack. I would do everything possible to stay away from her and make sure she stayed away from me.
I was bad news, ask my father. I was poison, ask the palace and I was death, ask my mother.
I didn’t want to find out what I would be to someone like her.
“Stay back and report to me once she’s awake,”
I instructed Mika. We were standing in front of one of the rooms at the pack’s hospital. Harriette suddenly fainted before we ended our conversation.
“We should wait for the doctor and hear what he has to say,”
I turned to her and scratched my eyes. “You should wait. I wouldn’t,”
That was all I said before I left the hospital. There was no need for me to wait behind and talk to her.
To me, she was a nobody. To her, I was just an Alpha
Why did it somehow fucking hurt because she didn’t recognize me?
My heart throbbed and I rubbed my chest as though it would stop the pain but it didn’t.

I returned to my office and–hegan pacing the room.
Why?
The little bastard in my head, my wolf, wanted me to go back and wait for Harriette to wake up.

I smirked.
My wolf, Thorne knew who the boss was but sometimes, he did back down because of his stubbornness. Thorne had never been submissive. He became possessive and heartless because he had to.

A knock resounded on my office door and I pushed Thorne to the back of my head.
“What do you want?”
1 yelled.
“Can I talk to you, Alpha?”
It was Mika.
“Come in,” She opened the door and walked in with a smirk on her face.
“You look disturbed and you had the same look on your face yesterday, what’s wrong?”
She asked.
Shit! She just touched a touchy subject at the time when I was fighting to get rid of Thorne.
Menacingly, I charged towards her with a loud growl.
“Fuck off,” I commanded.
Mika frowned. “Thorne,” She called.
I closed my eyes for a bit to calm down. “No! What do you want? I thought I asked you to wait till she’s awake, I asked impatiently. She had thought it was my wolf in control of my body and I could see the fear on her face.
She pulled herself together,
“Yes, but I’m here to discuss about her,”
I grabbed hold of the back of my neck.

“What about her“”
“We haven’t assigned her to any room or any job yet. Did she agree to join our fighters?”
I didn’t really leave Harriette with much of a choice. I knew for a fact that she wasn’t going to reject joining our fighters. Her sister had already been accepted into the pack and from the report I received, they were close. Harriette wouldn’t want to leave her sister.
In a simple sentence, I used her weakness against her.
“She accepted,”
“Which room?”
I snapped my gaze at Mika. She must be joking right?

Mika left the office and I was left alone with Thorne again. I walked up to my desk and sat down.
Suddenly, my mind went to the mirror behind me. I turned to the mirror and out of nowhere I could see Harriette. 1 growled lowly as I took in her figure.
