I quickly messaged back, asking the teacher to protect Emma, and then rushed to the kindergarten,
Lucas was very insistent, determined to take his daughter away.
I hurriedly ran over, shielding my daughter, and warned:
“I’ve already arranged with your parents. Emma’s custody belongs to me. Why are you still trying to disturb her?”
Seeing my wariness towards him, Lucas looked incredulous:
“Do you think I would harm Emma? I just wanted to take her out for a meal. There’s no need to make such a fuss.”
A few days ago, when Emma was in danger, he still resolutely chose to save Lily.
Perhaps as the father of two daughters, he would be torn.
But I only have Emma, and I can’t risk her life.

But I only have Emma, and I can’t risk her life.
Now, I can no longer trust him.
My gaze was cold:
“I don’t want my daughter to have any connection with you. Emma is just a child; she can’t withstand your favoritism.”
Hearing this, Lucas exhaled, as if remembering his favoritism towards Lily, showing some guilt:
“Rachel has left with Lily. I won’t play favorites anymore. From now on, I can be Emma’s full–time dad, take her everywhere, spoil her. Is that okay?”
Seeing that I remained silent, Lucas crouched down and looked at Emma with gentle eyes:
“Will you come play with Daddy?”
“I won’t leave you behind anymore. Whether you want a castle or anything else, Daddy can arrange it for you. Just say the word.”
Although the temptation was great, Emma still shook her head gently:
“Mommy isn’t happy when she’s with you, so I’m not happy either. I’d rather stay with Daddy Ethan.”
At the mention of Ethan, Lucas’s face darkened, but he still reminded her softly:
“You only have one father. Don’t leave me, okay?”
“You can also help me persuade Mommy to come home with Daddy. The three of us as a family would be complete, right?”
Emma pressed her lips together and stepped back distantly, lowering her head and no longer looking at him.
I knew my daughter had long been disappointed in him.
She had waited for this belated fatherly love for five whole years.
But what she got was coldness and differential treatment….
Sensing his daughter’s rejection, Lucas’s eyes instantly turned red.
“Emma…”
I hid my daughter behind me, my tone still calm:
“Don’t come looking for her anymore. If there’s a next time, I’ll transfer her to a different school.”
Lucas nodded resignedly, then slowly stood up, looking at me with moist eyes:
“Sophia, I know nothing I say now matters, but can you forgive me? Don’t be so cold…”
“I did prefer Rachel before, but now I realize that you’re the one I like, and Emma, whom you gave birth to, is the one I love most.”
“I have only one request: don’t become strangers with me, and don’t treat me like an enemy, okay?”
His indecisiveness and inability to make up his mind shouldn’t gamble with my daughter’s and my happiness.
And his belated confession would only become an annoying burden.
I looked into his eyes with utmost seriousness.
“We don’t see you as an enemy at all. We just hope that from now on, we can live our separate lives. That’s all.”
With that said, I took Emma’s hand and prepared to leave. Ethan arrived just in time.

He lovingly picked Emma up and personally opened the car door for me.
Our family of three discussed harmoniously what to cook for dinner, deciding that the loser of rock–paper–scissors would cook.
Lucas still stood at the kindergarten entrance, letting the wind mess up his hair.
He watched the happy scene inside the car with reddened eyes.
And this happiness belonged only to us now, with no place for him anymore.
