Lucas’s voice brought me back to reality.
“Sophia, I’ll give you the ring right now and admit to everyone that I like you. I promise I won’t let you suffer anymore.”
The man held the ring in front of me, his eyes full of expectation as he waited for my response.
All these years, he had been complacent, believing that my love for him would never change.
He even thought that everything I did was to win back his heart.
But my heart is made of flesh too, and it can feel pain.
After a long standoff, seeing that I had no intention of reaching out, he pursed his lips awkwardly.
“Sophia, do you really have to humiliate me like this?”
“If you’re not reassured, afraid that I might go back on my word, I can give half of all the assets under the group to you and Emma. I just want you to know that Emma is my daughter…”
As he was about to continue, Ethan cut him off:
“Our Chi family doesn’t need your money.”
He glanced at his watch and looked at me:
“It’s time to pick up our daughter. Let’s go.”
Hearing the word “daughter, Lucas’s eyes instantly turned red, his teeth grinding audibly.
“What did you call her?”
Ethan shrugged his shoulders fearlessly, calmly repeating:
“Daughter. You don’t know yet? Emma has started calling me Dad. You can’t imagine how happy that makes me.”
With those words, Ethan took my hand and left the bridal shop.

Behind us, Lucas clenched his fists tightly, angrily smashing his fist into an enamel vase.
In the evening, we picked up Emma and took her to an amusement park for a fun time.
Since Lucas’s return, Emma’s emotions had been up and down, and she had been feeling a bit down.
Whether it was Lucas’s favoritism or Rachel and Lily’s bullying, it had all been hard on her.
But Ethan was thoughtful enough to suggest going to the amusement park to relax and lift her spirits.
While Ethan went to buy ice cream, Emma came to sit beside me, swinging her legs.
“Mommy, you’re always so happy and smiling when you’re with Daddy Ethan.”
“But whenever Daddy appears, you always cry and look so sad…”
Thinking about it now, it really was like that.
Lucas’s attitude towards Emma and me left me exhausted and unable to cope.
Add to that Rachel’s interference and even using her daughter to threaten me.
I was just too tired.
Seeing Emma relaxed on the bench, ! stroked her head:
“We won’t have to suffer anymore. Your father will start a new family, and we have Daddy Ethan. Everything will be alright.”
Hearing this, Emma nodded vigorously, being incredibly well–behaved.
The three of us played until very late before heading home.
After washing up, somehow Lucas had found my new contact information and sent me several messages.
“You should at least let me see Emma, right? No matter what, she’s my daughter. Blood is thicker than water.”
“No matter how good Ethan is, he’s just pretending. Are you really comfortable entrusting the child to him? I don’t agree anyway.”
Message after message kept coming, and I got annoyed looking at them, so I directly blocked him.
The next evening, as I was about to pick up Emma, I received a message from her teacher:
“A gentleman claiming to be Emma’s father wants to take the child away. Is this with your permission?”
