Chapter 3
For a moment, I composed myself and took a taxi to Jarvis’s hospital.
I needed to see what Gianna was making such a fuss about.
Relying on my memory, I found the room where Gianna’s mother was staying. I had been here once before when I brought Jarvis lunch.
As I approached the door and was about to push it open, I glanced through the small window in the door to see what was going on inside.
There, on the bed, lay a pale woman, looking sickly, but her expression was one of
uncontainable excitement.

Standing beside the bed were Gianna and Jarvis. The first thing I noticed was their hands, intertwined.
Jarvis had a serious expression, while Gianna looked shy, almost like a daughter being entrusted to her future husband.
I couldn’t help but think back to when I had asked him to visit my parents.
At that time, he had made every excuse–he was too busy at the hospital, no time.
So, even after three years of marriage, he had only met my parents at our wedding.
In comparison, Gianna’s mother seemed more like his true mother–in–law.
A sharp pain stabbed at my stomach.

My stomach had always been weak, and today, the events had stirred up so much emotion that I was now suffering from a stomach ache.
I hadn’t stood there long when Jarvis, with his sharp instincts, noticed me.
His face changed, and after exchanging a few words with the others, he walked out.
He closed the door behind him and pulled me away from the room.
On the small balcony, Jarvis glared at me. “Why aren’t you at work? What are you doing here?”
The pain in my stomach intensified, and I instinctively placed a hand over it to ease the discomfort.

I forced myself to look at him, my face set with stubborn defiance. “I shouldn’t have come, should I? Disturbing you and Gianna’s little world.”
“What nonsense are you talking about?! Didn’t I explain everything clearly yesterday?”
“Is that all there is between a man and a woman in your eyes?”
He unintentionally raised his voice, accusing

At that moment, Gianna appeared from behind and rushed in front of me. She took my hand, her voice trembling with guilt.
“Ellie, really, there’s nothing between Jar and me. It’s all my fault. I made you

misunderstand, it’s all my fault…”
She choked on her words, tears welling in her
eyes.
I didn’t believe a single word she said. In fact, the first person to notice me in the room wasn’t Jarvis–it was her.
The look she gave me was full of defiance.
I watched her put on her little performance, indifferent, and ruthlessly pulled my hand out of her grasp.
As soon as I shook off Gianna’s hand, her tears fell, but to Jarvis, that was enough to break his heart. He immediately wrapped his arms around her, comforting her.
Meanwhile, here I was, the rightful wife, being scolded.

“What are you doing? Gia is trying to explain, and this is how you respond?”
The pain in my stomach made me double over, cold sweat beading on my forehead. With a fragile voice, I whispered, “Jar, my stomach hurts…”
Jarvis furrowed his brow, glaring at me. “Stop playing the victim! Apologize to Gia now!”
Our little scene was causing quite a stir, and soon, Jarvis’s colleagues–two doctors, a man and a woman–came over to see what was happening.
They walked up to Jarvis, glancing at the situation, and asked, “Who’s this?”
Without thinking, Jarvis blurted out,

“Ex–girlfriend.”
He looked at me, panicked, as if afraid I would expose him.
Just as he hoped, I stayed silent. I couldn’t bring myself to speak.
Everything went blurry, and my legs buckled beneath me. I was about to collapse when Jarvis stepped forward, ready to catch me.
But then, without warning, Gianna slumped to the ground, as if on cue.
Jarvis, quick as ever, rushed to catch her.
As for me, I crashed hard to the floor.
I stared at their intimate display, a bitter laugh escaping me.

Why couldn’t I just accept that in his eyes, I would never measure up to Gianna?
Eventually, one of the doctors nearby helped me to a bench.
A nurse gave me some medication, and soon, the pain eased.
As I left, I saw a message from Jarvis on my phone: “You rest there. Once I’m done here, I’ll come see you.”

In the past, I would have replied to his messages in an instant. But now, I simply ignored it.
Back at home, I looked at the tattoo above my heart and felt disgusted by it.
