Chapter 7
The bar quickly came to life, thanks to my friend’s connections, and soon, a good number of people had gathered.
I slipped back into my old routine–mixing drinks.
To my surprise, many people recognized me and mentioned how they’d been craving the drinks I used to make for a long time.
In that moment, I truly regretted giving up a career I had worked so hard for, all for the sake of one person.
The bar had hired several staff members, one of whom, Adrian, was particularly
amusing.

He always seemed shy around me, yet with the others, he was completely different.
I couldn’t resist the temptation to tease him, but I never expected him to be so easily flustered. He dodged me for days.
Then, one evening, an uninvited guest showed up.
I was mixing a drink when someone sat down at the bar. As I was about to greet them, a voice of complaint cut through the air.
“What’s this place–some kind of dive?”
It was Jarvis‘ voice. Thankfully, he wasn’t shouting, or he might have been thrown out.
When he saw me glance up, he immediately. put on a sincere expression. “Ellie, I’m sorry

for my friend’s joke. They won’t disrespect you like that again.”
“How about we remarry?”
I couldn’t help but sneer, then asked, “You really think we got divorced over a few stupid jokes from your friends?”
He didn’t answer, but his face seemed to say. Isn’t that why?
I hardened my expression, pointed to the door, and spat out a single word: “Leave.”
He opened his mouth to speak, but I cut him off, louder this time. “Get out!”
Just then, Adrian stepped forward, positioning himself in front of me without asking for any explanation. He coldly addressed Jarvis, “If you don’t leave now,

we’ll have to call security.”
Adrian’s tall frame blocked my view, so I couldn’t see Jarvis‘ expression, but I could hear his angry shouting.
“I knew it! You’re just a leopard that can’t change its spots! This is who you really are, isn’t it? It didn’t take you long to jump at the chance to find someone new, did it?!”
My true nature? I used to pride myself on being a free spirit–no relationships, no marriage–but I liked to tease people, though I always kept it respectful.
If I was at fault, I had no defense, but hearing someone I once loved speak of me like that made me feel disgusted to the core.
The first time I met Jarvis was in a bar. He didn’t fit in at all–he was nothing like the

usual crowd.
I was behind the bar, mixing drinks, and the moment I laid eyes on him, my heart stirred for the first time.
I knew right then that I had fallen for him at first sight.
Without hesitation, I asked for his contact information and began pursuing him.
Not long after, we were together. Then, he asked me to quit my job. Reluctantly, I listened and left.
I had some regrets back then, but once he proposed, all those doubts disappeared. I believed everything was worth it.
Now, I deeply regretted asking for his contact that day. Maybe I shouldn’t have

switched shifts with a colleague that day- then I never would have crossed paths with him.
After Jarvis left, Adrian, picking up on my reluctance to talk, wisely kept quiet.
One ordinary day, Gianna’s mother passed away, and Jarvis was there for her every step of the way.
I found out through her social circle–there was a photo of her snuggled up in Jarvis‘
arms.
The caption read: “I wouldn’t know what to do without you. From now on, you’re my support.”
I wanted to comment “Wishing you both a lifetime of happiness,” but I held back. Instead, I deleted all their contact

information–every last bit of it.
Life slowly began to fall back into place.
But Jarvis wouldn’t let go.
It was as if he had sensed something, and he started showing up at the bar, seeking me out.
One evening after work, he stopped me. “Ellie, I really understand now, I never intended to be with Gianna. I only did it to ease her mother’s worries.”
“I’ve always loved you. Can we start over? This time, let me chase after you.”
He said he understood his mistake, but I no longer had the desire to ask him anything.
“Gianna is a good person. You should be

with her. There’s no chance for us anymore.”
As soon as the words left my mouth, he immediately retorted, “No! She’s nothing like
you. She’s like a man, paranoid and
driving me crazy.”
“You’re the best. I don’t want to lose you. Please, give me another chance, Ellie.”
I furrowed my brows, staring at the pitiful Jarvis before me, and coldly spoke, “You’re really a piece of trash, you know that? Consider this me begging you–stop coming here and ruining my life.”
“A decent ex should be like they’re dead. Especially you, my ex–husband–you should go and get reincarnated.”
I took the words from his colleague and threw them back at him, hoping he’d grow

some self–respect and leave.
But he just stood there, pale–faced, and said, “I’m sorry. I should have introduced you to them. I shouldn’t have kept it a secret…”
Not hearing what I wanted, I cut off his apology. “Enough. I don’t want to hear your repentance. Go where you came from and don’t ever let me see you again.”
By some strange coincidence, every time Jarvis became a nuisance, Adrian was there. This time was no different.
Jarvis, seeing Adrian standing before him, didn’t lash out like last time. Instead, he looked at me, standing firm beside Adrian, and said, “Ellie, I’ll keep my word.”
With a look of hostility toward Adrian, he turned and walked away.
