Book 5 After My Husband Caused My Miscarriage
My hand trembled slightly as I gripped the doorknob.
The cold, indifferent words of Erik and his friends echoed in my ears, a cruel truth spoken under the haze of drunkenness.
“Why ke
her!”
a woman like this? Just divorce
“Divorce? That would be too easy for her.”
“Exactly! If it were me, I’d repay her in kind. That Angela… wasn’t she…?”
“The last time, I saw her intentionally dress provocatively in front of you…”

Laughter erupted among them.
I steadied myself, tightening my grip on the door handle and pressing it down.
The door creaked open.
Erik and his friends all turned to look at me.
The smile that lingered at the corner of Erik’s mouth faded instantly.
“You’re back,” he muttered.
I gave a quiet hum, retreating to the bedroom under the scornful gaze of his friend.
Exhausted from consecutive overtime, I collapsed into bed, barely able to sleep.
I don’t know how much time passed.

“Sidney, they’ve all gone. Get up and clean. up.”
Erik pulled me out of bed, his breath heavy with the stench of alcohol and smoke.
I didn’t need to guess; Erik had once again allowed his friends to smoke in the house.
“Why are you just standing there? Hurry up and clean. Don’t tell me later you didn’t get enough sleep.”
“Oh, and by the way, I have an 8 AM flight tomorrow, I need to leave by 6. Can you make me some porridge for breakfast? My stomach’s not feeling too well.”
My temples throbbed painfully.
I glanced at my phone. It was already 3 AM.

After two days of overtime–48 hours, with less than 5 hours of sleep–I felt my heart racing from sheer exhaustion.
I closed my eyes for a moment.
“Erik, it’s 3 AM. You want me to get up and clean up the mess from your party?”
“And then, at 6 AM, you need me to make. breakfast for you?”
I felt a ridiculous urge to laugh at how absurd this all was.
“So, I’m not allowed to sleep, am I? Erik, do you even know that I’ve been working for two days…?”
Before I could finish, he interrupted loudly, “What does that have to do with me? Did I make you lose sleep? Did I force you to work

overtime?”
“Sidney, get your priorities straight. You’re married now. Your main responsibility is to take care of the home!”
With that, Erik shouted and tossed the blanket over his head, quickly falling into a deep sleep.
“Stop chasing that few thousand bucks and take care of your duties as my wife, Mrs. Conner.”
The words hit me like a blow to the chest, and I stared at him, disbelieving.
But he simply looked at me with contempt, eyes scanning me from top to bottom.
“Talking about the miscarriage, I think it’s your fault. All that overtime work made you

lose the baby. You were probably too afraid of being blamed, so you deliberately fell to make it look like an accident, so no one would blame you.”
Erik’s cruel voice pierced my ears, and I stood frozen, like a puppet, unable to speak.
He didn’t expect a reply and quickly turned away to fall asleep, his snores filling the air.
I, however, lay there, frozen in silence, unable to sleep.
I got up mechanically and walked into the living room.
As expected, the floor was covered in cigarette butts and garbage.
The coffee table was strewn with leftover takeout and empty alcohol bottles, a mess

everywhere.
The spilled soup stained the floor, the couch…
In the corner, the comfort rabbit I had bought for the baby was carelessly thrown on the floor.
I picked it up, my heart aching for the lost child.
Tears fell without warning.
I heard Erik’s words from earlier, now echoing in my ears.
“Did she sleep with Myles? Do you believe that? Ha, I don’t. But at least God was kind enough to let her lose the baby herself.”
Erik.
