Chapter 3
Erik stood frozen for a long while.
Then he turned slowly, a cruel smile playing at the corner of his mouth.
“Sidney, don’t forget who lent you the money to save your mother. You owe me, and you’ll never pay it back in this lifetime.”
“Divorce? Don’t even think about it!”
Erik refused to divorce me.
Knowing how much I despised his gambling friends, he became even more determined to bring them home to provoke me.
Smoking, drinking, gambling.

The house was filled with smoke, the air
thick with disorder.
I could no longer bear it. I packed a few clothes and ran to my best friend’s house.
But Erik grew even more indulgent.
Not only did he bring his friends back, but he also brought Angela–the green tea l despised the most–into our home.
Angela updated her social media constantly.
The first night-
“Drunk at Brother Erik’s place.”
The picture: she pouted, taking a selfie, with a man wearing a wedding ring resting his hand on her shoulder.

The second night-
“Brother Erik is naughty, always getting me drunk. What good does that do him?”
The picture: she was hugging the panda stuffed animal I bought for the baby, lying on my bed, crying pitifully.
Her white thighs peeked out from beneath her black stockings.
Today-
“Brother Erik’s place is so messy. He’s lucky I’m here to clean up.”
The picture: her bent over while sweeping, her cleavage exposed in a way that made my stomach churn.
I stared at my phone, expressionless, and

gave her post a like.
In the next moment, Angela’s private message came through.
“Sis, don’t misunderstand. Brother Erik said you’ve been busy lately, so I came to help clean.”
“By the way, Sis, with your job, don’t you think about quitting? I see Brother Erik looking so pitiful, always eating takeout.”
“Brother Erik asked me to go home with him after work and cook for him. If you finished work early, you could come back and eat with us.”
Angela was our college junior. Long before Erik and I were together, she had confessed her feelings for him countless times.

It was well known that she liked Erik.
Before we got married, I asked Erik to stay away from Angela.
He agreed.
I thought she would fade from his life.
But now, Angela worked at his company, and Erik had never mentioned it to me.
The thought of Angela and Erik seeing each other every day made me nauseous, wondering if they’d already crossed boundaries.
I felt a wave of disgust rise within me.
“Alright, then. Make more food, I’ll be back to eat later.”

I replied to Angela with forced composure, then put my phone away and took a cab back home.
