Chapter9
Crouched in the shadowy corner of the club, my wolf’s senses flare with cruel curiosity.
How would Alpha Finn react to being branded a mere backup plan?
“This is the woman you nearly sacrificed your life for, Frank.”
After leaving the club, I retreat to the safety of my room.
I reach out, tracing the silver – laced frame.
“Mother,” I whisper.
“I’m to be married to the comatose alpha of the Lyra’s Howl Pack. They say his wolf sleeps in an enchanted slumber, trapped in a

mindless state. Perhaps it’s for the best. At least there’ll be no betrayal.”
I run my fingers over the intricate runes etched into the frame.
“I won’t make the same mistakes you did. I won’t let love cloud my judgment, won’t let it consume me until there’s nothing left.”
As the night deepens, I begin to pack.
Just as the first rays of dawn pierce the sky, my phone vibrates with a notification.
“1,000,000,000 dollars transferred to your account.”
Immediately, Mathew’s call comes through.
“The Lyra’s Howl Pack demands your immediate arrival. Your dowry has been paid

in full.”
“Frank’s to be reassigned to Stephnie.”
There’s a long pause, and when Mathew speaks again, his voice is uncharacteristically soft.
“Stella, you must believe me. I’ve always loved you and your mother. What happened… it was a tragedy beyond my control.”
“Once, I thought you were merely immoral. Now I see you’re truly despicable.”
I end the call and promptly block his number, severing the last remaining tie to my so- called family.
Outside, the rumble of enchanted moving trucks fills the air.

As I direct the workers, Frank emerges, his brow furrowed in confusion.
“Stella, what’s all this?”
“I’m moving”
He nods, oblivious to the magnitude of my words.
“I’ll help you.”
“No need. You have other duties. I want you to go to the Enchanted Bakery and fetch a chocolate – infused cake for Stephnie.”
“Why?”
“Just do it. You’ll find out soon enough.”
I watch as he swallows hard, his desire

to see Stephnie clearly outweighing his confusion.
“After I’m done, send me your new address. I’ll bring the rest of your things.”
After a moment, he assumes I’ll message him later and departs.
As he reaches the gate, I mutter under my breath,
“Farewell, Frank. May your new loyalty serve you well.”
He turns back, a questioning look on his face. “What did you say?” “Nothing” I say, my voice cold and final.
“Just go.”
As the car pulls away, I take out my old

phone card.
With a single, decisive snap, I break it in two and toss the pieces out the window.
