I bit my lip, forcing back the tears as I knelt down to pick up the yellow sapphire ring. It was the only keepsake my mother had left
- me.
As I handed it to him, my hand trembled, and my heart ached.
In my heart, I silently made a vow.
This would be the last time I ever shed a tear
for Jaxon.

Jaxon suddenly lifted his foot and stomped down hard on my hand.
The pain was almost unbearable. My hand felt as though it were being crushed, the bones threatening to break under the
pressure.
But I clenched my jaw, desperately holding back the scream that clawed at my throat.
“Nina, Selena’s pissed because of you” Jaxon spat. “If you can’t make her happy, you’ll be kicked out of the pack. No second chances. Don’t think you’ll ever come back.”
I froze, my body shaking involuntarily.
The truth was, I didn’t even need to stay with Jaxon anymore. I stopped loving him a long time ago. But I knew him too well. I knew just how cruel he could be.
There was one time I refused to wash Selena’s underwear, telling him I couldn’t

take it anymore. She got angry and ignored him, and his fury erupted. He shifted into his wolf form, dragged me outside, tore at me, stripped me down, and left me out in the freezing cold of winter.
The temperature was below zero, and I shivered uncontrollably, my body succumbing to a fever. I passed out.
When I woke up, he hadn’t taken me to a hospital or even checked if I was okay. Instead, he forced me to clean, acting like nothing had happened, as if I had committed some unforgivable crime.
I lowered my head, the painful memories flooding back.
I bent down, nearly collapsing to the ground.
“I’m sorry. It’s all my fault,” I whispered.
Before I could finish, a sharp kick landed in my back.

I stumbled forward, crashing into the counter. My forehead exploded with pain, and my vision spun.
I reached up, feeling the swelling, the bruise already forming beneath my skin.
Tears blurred my vision, but I bit my lip, forcing myself not to let them fall. I couldn’t give him that satisfaction.
All I could do was lie there, trembling, my body betraying me with its weakness.
Jaxon kicked me again, this time with the top of his foot.
“Hey, I barely kicked you. Stop pretending to be so fragile,” he sneered.
He clicked his tongue, his annoyance evident.
“Forget it. I’m not wasting any more time on you. Tomorrow, come with me to see the old

aipna anu tell him you want that ring. Bul don’t say anything stupid. One wrong word, and I’ll make you regret it for the rest of your life.”
With that, he turned and walked away, Selena at his side, as if nothing had just happened.
I couldn’t help but lower my head, clutching my aching body.
I sat there for a long time, trying to steady my breathing before I finally managed to stand. My hands were covered in blood. Small pieces of glass and gravel had embedded themselves into my skin.
I dragged myself toward the road, hoping to catch a cab to see a doctor.
Just then, I heard the sound of an engine revving.
Selena’s car came speeding toward me. Before I could react, there was a loud crash, and I was thrown by the impact, hitting the

pavement hard. Then everything went black.
When I regained consciousness, I heard voices–Jaxon’s and the doctor’s.
“Did Nina miscarry?”
After a brief pause, Jaxon’s cold voice replied, “Forget it.”
“As long as Selena’s pup is fine, don’t worry about Nina. Get all the wolves to take care of Selena. I’ll handle Nina myself.”
Moments later, the door opened, and Jaxon stepped inside. When our eyes met, he awkwardly looked away, his usual arrogance gone in an instant.
“I didn’t know you were carrying a pup,” he muttered, almost as if it didn’t matter.
“Well, it’s not a big deal if you lost it. It’s not like it’s the first time, right?”

“Now that the pup’s gone, you can focus on taking care of Selena’s baby”
I didn’t respond, just stared at him, my mind flooded with memories of my first miscarriage. It was when Selena had first entered our lives. She cried and claimed she didn’t want to break up a family.
To keep her happy, Jaxon had forced me to take abortion pills.
“Don’t think just because you’re pregnant, you can tie me down,” he’d told me coldly.
“I hate pups, especially the ones you carry!”
I went through a painful, illegal abortion. The doctor warned me that I might never be able to get pregnant again.
Not long after the procedure, I received a photo from Selena. She and Jaxon were in bed together, close, intimate.
Meanwhile, I was still bleeding, barely

hanging on to life, while they celebrated in our wedding bed.
They stayed in bed for three days, the trash can overflowing with used condoms. One of the legs of the antique bed I’d brought broke under their weight.
Jaxon had framed a handkerchief stained with Selena’s first–night blood and hung it on the wall, where our wedding photo used to hang.
From that moment on, I knew there was nothing left between us. The only reason I stayed in this marriage was because of the family’s interests. I had no other choice.
I lowered my head again, silent.
Since then, I knew I had nothing left. Nothing was mine anymore.
I bowed my head and didn’t speak another word.

Jaxon nanded me a bowl of soup.

“I made you some nourishing soup. Try it.”
I raised my hand, but a sharp pain shot through my arm. I sucked in a breath, glancing down at my bandaged arm.
Jaxon turned away quickly, a brief flash of guilt crossing his face.
“Selena was hurt in the car accident. She’s
worried about scars… so I had the doctor take a small piece of skin from your arm. It’s really nothing, just a tiny bit. You won’t even notice.”
I stared at him, unsure whether to laugh or cry. Even in my state–injured and having lost the pup–he was still using my body to protect another woman. And he actually thought he was doing me a favor.
