Chapter 14
A sharp, splitting pain tore through my skull, like someone had driven a goddamn nail into it. I forced my eyes open, squinting at the dim light filling the room, my vision was blur and spinning.
Fuck.
Cold air brushed against my bare skin. The thin sheet barely covered my waist, useless against the chill sinking into my bones. My muscles tensed as flashes of blood, gunfire, and chaos tore through the fog in my head.
The attack.
I clenched my jaw hard enough to crack teeth. It all came back in a rush, pulling the trigger, bodies dropping one after another, the sharp sting as a shard of glass tore into my back. Those fuckers will pay for this in the most brutal way possible” I thought And suddenly an image of her, flashed in my mind.
A single towel wrapped tightly around her, as she walked out of the bathroom. Teasing me with every inch of her exposed skin. That intoxicating scent of hers, something purely sinful that had wrapped around me like a noose. Her lips had parted slightly when she caught me staring, and for a second.
Elara Ashford will be the death of me.
It had been a week since I started trying, really fucking hard, to stay away from her. I forced myself to wake up before she did, leaving the house before the sun had even fully risen. Yet, every damn day, I found myself slumping down in my office chair, eyes locked onto the CCTV feed of my mansion. Watching her. Every movement. Every flicker of emotion on her face. From the moment she woke up to the second she disappeared into her room at night. I told myself it was to keep an eye on her. But deep down, I knew the truth, I was addicted.
I stayed out late, only returning when I was sure she was already asleep. It was the only way to keep my control intact. Because if I was near her? If I saw her up close?
I wouldn’t fucking stop.
That woman. I had stumbled into her arms before everything faded to black.
A low growl of frustration rumbled in my chest as I swung my legs off the bed, ignoring the sharp pain ripping through me.
“Morning, sunshine,” a lazy voice drawled from across the room. “Or should I say evening? You look like absolute shit.”
My looked to my left. Andrew Albano,my left–hand, sat there like he owned the damn place, coffee steaming in one hand, a magazine balanced casually in the other.
“What the fuck are you doing in my room?” I growled.
Andrew sighed, completely unfazed by my glare. “You’re welcome for dragging your ass back here alive, by the way. But nah, don’t bother with gratitude. I know that’s not your style.”
I pushed myself up, ignoring the fire tearing through my muscles. “Who the fuck were they?”
Andrew leaned back, stretching his arms behind his head. “Some small–time gang. Probably thought they’d hit the jackpot by taking you out.” His voice held a trace of amusement, like the idea was laughable.
I buttoned up my black shirt, barely restraining my anger. “Tell me you have those motherfuckers in the basement.”
Andrew sighed, setting his coffee down on the side table. “Luca caught them. Every last one of them.” He smirked, throwing me a wink. “You shot most of them, but the ones who survived? Well, they’re taken care of.”
I nodded in approval. “Hmm… how’s Mark?”
“Your father went to see him. He’s fine now.”
The door of my room creaked open.
My father, Alessandro Romano, stepped inside, his presence was commanding as ever. Nero and Luca followed right behind him.
Andrew immediately stood, bowing slightly out of respect. My father waved a hand, silently telling him to relax. His sharp gaze locked onto mine.
“How are you, son?”
“I’m fine, Dad,” I said with a nod.
He took a seat on the couch while Luca and Andrew remained standing. Nero, as usual, had no sense of personal space and flopped onto my bed like he owned it.

“Your mother was dying to come, but had to force her to wait until her show was over,” my father said with a sigh “She’ll be here first thing in the morning”
I exhaled “Tell Mom there’s no need. It was just a little scratch”
Andrew covered his mouth to keep from laughing, while Luca rolled his eyes
Alessandro smirked “Well, you can explain that to her yourself”
“Anyway, let me come straight to the point. What are your intentions with the girl you’re keeping in your mansion?
Andrew coughed loudly, probably choking on air. I shot him a glare before sighing heavily and looking anywhere but at my father.
“I don’t know” I shrugged, still feeling his gaze burning into me. Damn it
“Family comes first, son,” he said, his tone dangerously low. “That girl has become a threat to ours”
I frowned at his words.
Nero cleared his throat before speaking “The gang that attacked you wasn’t after you.” He swiped on the tablet in his hand, glancing at me. “They were after the Russian mafia princess”
te turned the screen toward me.
A high–resolution image of Elara appeared. Her strikingly beautiful eyes, too damn beautiful for a woman who shouldn’t exist in a world like this, stared back at me. That long dark hair, those lips that had haunted me in my dreams.
$1 billion. Alive.
“Someone wants her,” Nero said. “Badly”
My heartbeat quickened, a dangerous fire burning inside my chest. My fists clenched unknowingly, rage bubbling under my skin.
“Who the fuck had the balls to put a price on my woman?” I growled.
Luca cocked an eyebrow before smirking. I shot him a death glare, but my father, on the other hand, looked at me in surprise and then smirked
himself.
“You have two choices, son,” he said, his voice now serious, all amusement gone from his eyes Kill the girl before those gangs reach our family.”
He paused, letting his words settle. He stood up and walked toward me.
“Or marry her. Take the throne officially. Every single member of the Romano mafia will die to protect their queen.” He patted by back and walk out of the room.
Silence
My fingers curled into fists, Kill her–or marry her..
The fuck kind of choice was that?
Luca let out a low whistle, breaking the silence, “Damn, Straight to marriage or murder, huh?”
“You’re awfully quiet for a man who usually shoots first and asks questions never,” Andrew muttered, while sitting back done on the couch. Swirling the last bit of his coffee like it held the secrets of the universe.
1 shot him a glare sharp enough to cut glass. “Keep talking, Albano. I’ll show you how quiet I can be while you bleed.”
He smirked but wisely kept his mouth shut.
“Find them, whoever the hell put up this bounty!” I snarled, my voice cutting through the tsilence. “I want that bastard in my hands. Search every inch of this goddamn world and drag him to me!”
Luca and Andrew exchanged glances “On it, Boss,” they said in unison.
I pushed up from the bed, the sharp sting of my injuries barely registering through the rage coursing through my veins. Luca tilted his head, watching me with a wolfish grin.
“Where are you going?” he asked lazily.
“To end this fucking mess
Luca whistled low. “Hot damn. Love turns even psychos into poets,”
