I still left-
not with double the severance, though.
Alpha Algernon from the Blue Moon Pack poached me.
Because he offered me something I simply couldn’t refuse.
“The land in East City has already been purchased. That’s my show of sincerity.”
I extended my hand.
“Alpha Algernon, pleasure doing business with you!”
“But Juliet, I do want to ask–why turn that

land into a charity project?”
“Alpha Algernon, I’m a businesswoman. I don’t give without getting something in return. Alpha Zach doesn’t get that–but you do, don’t you?”
He smiled.
Everyone knows charitable enterprises are far more palatable to the public.
Out of curiosity, I still asked what made him interested in me.
He rubbed his fingers thoughtfully.
“Probably because you’re the first woman who’s ever bested me.”
I got it.

It wasn’t just my skills-
it was that cursed need of his to conquer things he couldn’t have.
I submitted my resignation without drama.
Except for the team I personally brought up, everyone else wore looks of barely concealed joy.
When I handed Alpha Zach the letter, he only asked one thing:
“When you learn the truth someday, will you regret it?”
I met his gaze, firm and unwavering.
“I won’t.””
After all, that so–called “truth“–

was just the version he believed in.
When I left Silver Claw Pack, the sky was clear, clouds drifting light and slow.
At the same time, the Silver Claw Packhouse’s website proudly announced Alpha Zach’s wedding.
This time it was even grander than the last.
Alpha Zach-
he really does love turning his own wedding into a public spectacle.
The day before the wedding.
Callie called me, sounding like the smug little

princess she thought she was.
“Juliet, you’ve trained Alpha Zach into exactly the kind of man I like. I’m very pleased.
Thanks for sticking by him for so long. I actually wanted to invite you to the wedding
but he wouldn’t allow it.
Otherwise, I really would’ve thanked you in front of everyone.”
I was neck–deep in a major project at the time,
but when I heard her words, I couldn’t help laughing out loud.
“What’s that supposed to mean? Juliet-

what’s that laugh supposed to mean?!”
She sounded like she was about to lose it.
“It means nothing. I just wish you a smooth wedding, Callie.”
But how could the wedding possibly go smoothly?
Callie was still far too naive.
Just as I expected-
on what she thought would be the happiest day of her life,
she became the biggest joke in the room.
Worse than what I experienced.
At least my farce of a wedding had some

dignity-
he didn’t invite the media. That was him saving face for himself, not for me.
But this time?
He invited every media outlet in the Blue Moon Pack.
Even the trashy little tabloids on street corners showed up.
And Callie, that clueless sweetheart,
actually believed it was a sign of how much he loved her.
Alpha Algernon and I had just wrapped a meeting on next steps

when the news broadcast switched to the wedding debacle.
He looked at the screen, then looked at me.
Before he could say a word,
I grabbed the remote and shut the whole thing off.
“Nothing worth watching.”
