Chapter 31
The so–called “disagreement” that led him to turn our wedding into a game was simply this:
He wanted to build an entertainment club in North City.
I wanted to build an orphanage in East City.
When I excitedly brought him the research and proposal-
his cold words shattered my heart.
“Juliet, stop being ridiculous. Business is about profit. Why are you talking about charity?”
“Just because you grew up in an orphanage

doesn’t mean you have to throw all your money into building one.”
A chill rose from the pit of my heart.
The man in front of me looked familiar, yet utterly foreign.
He had finally grown into a proper Alpha- no longer bearing a trace of the passionate boy from our youth.
Back when we landed our very first order,
Alpha Zach and I clung to each other atop a mountain,
sobbing, drunk out of our minds.
At sunrise,
he shouted into the sky.

“I’m going to make Silver Claw Pack the strongest pack out there!”
His eyes sparkled with hope for the future.
He turned to me, gaze warm and soft.
“And then I’ll give my Juliet the grandest wedding ever.”
I looked at him for a long time without speaking.
He reached out and gently cupped my face.
“Juliet, what about you?”
I leaned against his shoulder.
“Then I’ll wish you success.”

The soft light of the rising sun bathed the young Alpha’s face,
illuminating the fine fuzz on his skin like stardust.
That boy is long gone.
But I’m so close to fulfilling my dream.
The first thing I did after quitting my job
was list that tiny old apartment for sale.
Today, I finally got the call from the agent- time to hand over the keys.
I returned to the old place once more.
This place carried too many memories.
Five years ago, Silver Claw Pack’s Alpha and

Luna died in a sudden car crash.
The pack was seized by his uncle.
Callie, his childhood sweetheart, used it as an excuse to break up and study abroad.
“Little nanny, Yolanda and I… we’re orphans too now.”
When I was eighteen, he saved me from the hands of an old lecher for the first time, took me into his home, and gave me a decent job as a nanny.
So at twenty–two, when Alpha Zach and Yolanda were kicked out with nowhere to
go,l brought them both to my shabby rental apartment.
Watching Alpha Zach drink himself into a stupor night after night, I finally pulled

out the deed left to me by the orphanage headmistress.
I handed him a bank card.
“Zach, pull yourself together.”
He slapped it away.
“Little nanny, don’t you get it? It’s all gone. Everything’s gone.”
“What good is this card supposed to do?”
I picked the card up and stuffed it back into his hand.
He threw it away again.
I picked it up once more.
After repeating this several times,he lost it

and hurled the card into the thorn bushes outside the building.
“Get out!”
He kicked me out of the room.
I didn’t argue.
I calmed down a sobbing Yolanda and went downstairs.
The thorns tore at my arms and hands, but the moment I spotted the card, I was overwhelmed with relief.
I bent down too fast and scratched my face on a branch.
When I finally handed that card back to Alpha Zach–clothes torn, body covered in cuts–he froze.

He reached out and touched my dirt–smeared face.
I smiled.
“Zach, you’ve got Yolanda, you’ve got me, and now you’ve got money.”
He broke down sobbing in my arms.
“Juliet, let’s build our future together.”
It was the first time he looked me straight in the eyes, the first time he called me by my
name.
With only a hundred bucks left to his name, he took me to the hospital.
But the good meds were too expensive.

A faint scar still lingers on my face to this day.
In that little apartment, we analyzed the market, negotiated contracts, and grew step by step.
When he finally reclaimed Silver Claw Pack and we moved into the big mansion-
I bought the old apartment.
Left everything exactly as it was.
The memories stopped cold.
I took one last look around, then handed the keys to the new tenant.
After dinner with Alpha Algernon, he dropped me off in front of my building.

A faint red glow flickered in the dark.
I clutched my bag and covered my nose, intending to hurry past.
As I walked by, a hand suddenly grabbed my wrist.
I screamed.
A hand covered my mouth.
“Juliet, don’t scream–it’s me.”
I looked up.
It was Alpha Zach.
His face was unshaven, with no trace of the sharp, confident man from financial news
reports.

“Why did Alpha Algernon bring you home?”
I took a breath and motioned for him to let go.
“Alpha Zach, whoever takes me home now… It’s none of your business.”
“Juliet, what’s that supposed to mean?”
I gave him a look.
Let him figure it out on his own.
I tried pulling away, but he wouldn’t let go.
“So what, you just couldn’t handle being alone? Already found yourself a new man?”
I looked at the man before me, frantic and unhinged.

For the first time, I realized I might have never truly known him.
“Is that who I am to you, Alpha Zach?”
I laughed.
Really laughed.
It was funny–how I had built him up from rock bottom, stood by him through the mud. and the mess, helped him become the Alpha he is today.
But none of that mattered.
He didn’t care about my sacrifices.
He only cared about whether I’d cheated.
I almost wished I had.

But no–I didn’t.
And I’ve never hated myself more for that.
