Chapter 23
Juno’s POV
I woke up feeling strangely refreshed, despite everything that had happened. My body sank into the plush mattress. The memories of last night flooded back–standing face to face with the Alpha King himself, Augustin Levenston.
After our encounter, Seraphine and I had trembled on the floor until we finally calmed enough to crawl into bed. Id passed out immediately, my mind too overwhelmed to process what had happened.
I stretched, feeling my muscles pull pleasantly. Why had the Alpha King come to see me personally? It made no sense. Men like him didn’t waste time with women unless they wanted something.
“He smelled good,” Seraphine’s voice echoed in my head, dripping with appreciation.
“Not now,” I groanedy pressing my palms against my eyes.
“Strong. Powerful. Alpha she continued, clearly enjoying my discomfort.,
“I noticed,” I muttered. “But that doesn’t change anything. We need to stay strong here. We can’t show weakness.
“His wolf wanted to devour us,” Seraphine purred.
“We can’t show weakness, Seraphine, or we’ll be torn apart like rabbits.”
“Don’t challenge an Alpha King’s patience too much. Not wise,” she warned, though I could sense her excitement at the prospect.
“I’ll test his limits,” I agreed, though my understanding of testing was vastly different from hers. Seraphine was thinking about tangled limbs and claiming bites. I was planning survival strategies.
The bathroom attached to my room was bigger than my entire bedroom back home. Marble countertops, gold fixtures, and a bathrab that could easily fit three people. The shelves were stocked with expensive soaps, lotions, and perfumes–all in my preferred scents.
I stepped into the shower, letting hot water cascade over my skin.
“Do you think Zephyx’s human will come for us?” Seraphine asked suddenly.
A sharp pain shot through my chest at the mention of Matthew. God, I missed him. Even after everything, I missed him.
“I hope not,” I whispered. “I hope he has enough sense to stay in Forestvale and take care of his responsibilities.”
I sank into the massive tub, tears mixing with bathwater.
“Damn fate!” I shouted, slamming my fist into the water. “Why did it have to bring Isabelle into our lives?”
I understood that Matthew had tried his best. He’d fought the pull of his fated mate as long as he could. If Isabelle’s father hadn’t been an Alpha, she never would have won. Matthew could have ignored her until she got the message.
But then they’d brought her into our home. Into my territory. And everything had spiraled. Stil best.
Chew had tried. He’d tried his
“Where are you, red–haired beauty?” A voice sparkled through my mind, vibrant and lively.
I startled, nearly dropping the towel I’d wrapped around myself.

Chapter 23
“In my room. You? 1 replied hesitantly through the mind–link.
“Come have breakfast with us! The ladies are waiting for you,” Scarlett voice sang in my head.
“What ladies?” I asked.
*The other Lunas, silly! Well, ex–Lunas now. And I have things to tell y about last night that I definitely did not shark
What happened last night?” I asked, curious.
A husky laugh filled my mind. “Let me tell you, that Beta, Bryloch… hes a stallion!!
I couldn’t help but laugh out loud. “You’re naughty, Scarlett.”
“In this situation, I have to enjoy what pleasures I can get, she replied, and I could practically see her wink. “Honestly though, he was respectful. A real gemteman, contrary to first impressions.”
“That’s good to hear.”
“And how was your night with the Alpha King?” she asked, a suggestive tone coloring her thoughts.
“Nothing happened. Nothing will happen,” I stated firmly.
There was a pause. “You need to face reality, Juno. Matthew chose Isabelle.”
The pain in my chest returned, sharper this time. “I know that. Why do you think I’m here?
“I hope he doesn’t do something stupid trying to rescue you,” Scarlett said softly. “He’s better off alive with her than dead trying to save
you.”
