Chapter 75
Asher’s POV
An icy wave hit me as I flipped through the pictures in front of me. I couldn’t believe my eyes, let alone make sense of what I was seeing. My heart raced as I stared at the grainy image, barely illuminated by the streetlights. There it was: a body bag, unmistakably, being dragged out of the pack by my mother and Becca. The timestamp read 2 AM.
“Two in the morning?” I muttered to myself, shaking my head in disbelief. “What the hell were they doing?”
I leaned back in my chair, trying to process the chaotic thoughts that had engulfed my mind. My informant, a scruffy guy named Leo, was sitting across from me, his eyes darting nervously.
“Are you sure it was a body?” I pressed, my voice low but urgent. “I mean, it could be anything, right? A mannequin or something?”
Leo swallowed hard, his throat bobbing like a kid caught in a lie. “No, Your Majesty. I noticed how they carried it, and from where I stood, I could tell It was something heavy. I couldn’t confirm it ‘cause I didn’t want to risk getting caught.”
I would have argued that they weren’t the ones, considering the fact that they were masked, but their figures and then the bracelet on Becca’s hand.
I leaned in closer, my pulse quickening. “Why would they be dressed this way and move something that I could undoubtedly say was a body at 2 AM?” Could I have underestimated this combo?
Leo shifted in his seat, clearly uncomfortable. “I don’t know, your majesty. This was all I witnessed. But I can dig deeper.”
“Yes, you should do that…” I snapped, trying to keep my frustration in check. “I need you to be more intense with your spying, This isn’t a game; it’s my family we’re talking about here. I need to know every and anything”
“Noted, Your Majesty.” He acknowledged, excusing himself with a final bow.
As he left, I sat there staring at the pictures again, my mind racing. Why 2 AM? What could possibly justify this action? Everything seemed so real, but I kept trying to convince myself otherwise. I would definitely get to the bottom of these I said.
i picked up my phone and dialled Cain. Despite the fact that we were almost never in good terms, I knew that Cain could be very helpful in this. He was one of the most observant persons I knew, yet he always acted like he knew nothing about everything.

“Asher?” Gemini called out, a look of concern in the depth of her eyes. “You haven’t touched your food yet? Don’t you like it?”
Instead of replying to her, I found myself dashing out of the dinning room, I was still yet to get over what I had discovered. Deep down I wished that none of it was true, but I had no choice but to await feedback from Leo and Cain.
As I pushed the door open, the familiar scent of the room hit me–both colognes mixed to form the perfect combo, plus a hint of lavender from the candles. But my mind was still tangled in the chaos of the night. I barely noticed Gemini tucked under the covers until the door slammed shut behind me. She shot up, her eyes wide with concern.
“Your majesty?” she called softly, sounding almost too formal as she glanced down at the clock on the nightstand. “What’s wrong? You don’t look too good. And… you didn’t even touch the food I made you!”
Her words sliced through the fog in my head. I froze, my heart sinking. “You made dinner?” I muttered, realization crashing over me. This was the first time she’d tried to make something for me, and look how I completely disregarded it.
I could already feel her hurt and it stirred guilt within me.
Gemini’s expression softened, but the disappointment in her eyes remained inevitable.”Yeah, I spent my free time on it. I thought you might like it.” She looked down, her voice dropping. “But when you left, I lost my appetite too. I told the maids to dispose of it, it was probably not your type of food.” Her emotions threatened to overwhelm her, but she instantly turned it into a joke.
“It was crap actually, thank goodness you didn’t eat from it.” She added playfully, trying to ease the discomfort in the room.
Instant guilt washed over me, and my cold, kingly demeanour melted away like ice in the sun. “I had no idea you were in charge of tonight’s dinner… I—“I paused, running out of excuses as she struggled to keep her gaze away from me,

She nodded, biting her lip. “It’s fine, goodnight, your majesty.” She said dismissively. “But if you ever need someone to talk to, I’m available. Even the strongest men need a friend too…” Her words seemed to sting a bit, leaving me to think for a couple of seconds.
I ran a hand through my hair, feeling the weight of my earlier frustrations. “Gemini, it’s not your fault. My rejecting your food had nothing to do with you or the meal. It’s all on me.”
“It doesn’t really matter anymore, all of that is in the past.” Gemini replied but it did nothing to clear the guilt in my heart.
I picked a file and sat on the edge of the bed as I flipped through it.
“It’s best if you sleep now, you barely have any sleep these days and it really isn’t good for your health.” She whispered.
I didn’t react to that, rather a question popped into my head.
“Gemini, why have you and the Sage refused to say a thing about who injected you with the wolfsbane? Who are you trying to protect and why?”
