“I’m so glad that your wolf has finally decided to manifest.” My mom said with a proud smile spread across her face.
I scoffed, “No one prepared me for that shit. It’s painful as hell. I mean, I can still feel the pain even after two days.” I whined, causing a laugh to erupt from Gavin who stood behind my mom.
“Welcome to Shape Shifting 101.” Gavin teased. His only saving grace was that it was a video call, or else we would have been running around like a cat chasing its prey.
“With time, you would get used to it.” Mom interjected, trying to soothe my frustration. “Just remember, it’s all about control and balance. You’ll get the progression soon,” she said, her voice warm and reassuring.
I nodded, still feeling a bit dazed by the whole experience. “Alright, mom. I’ll try.”
Gavin, who had been quietly observing our conversation, chimed in, “And don’t forget to read those books I sent you, Gemini. They’ll help you understand your wolf better.”
rolled my eyes good–naturedly. “I actually read some of those long ago, when I was still very crazy about seeing my wolf. But I’ll make sure to read them again.”
My mom smiled, seemingly satisfied with our conversation. “Alright, kids. I think that’s all for now. We’ll talk later.”
As they moved to disconnect the call, I caught Gavin’s eye. “Hey, Gavin?”
He raised an eyebrow. “What’s up?”
I hesitated, unsure how much to reveal. “There’s still more to spill, but not now.”
Gavin’s expression turned curious, but he nodded. “Same here… But sure, we will talk later.”
My mom, however, wasn’t buying it. “So, you two are hiding things from me now?” she asked, her tone playful. It’s been our thing for ages and distance wasn’t enough to stop us.
I exchanged a nervous glance with Gavin. “No, mom. It’s nothing,” I lied, trying to sound convincing.
Gavin jumped in, “Yeah, mom. We’re good. Don’t worry about it.”
My mom raised an eyebrow, her eyes sparkling with amusement. “Let me act like I believe you two.” She said, causing both Gavin and I to burst into laughter. “But remember, I always find out.”
“Yeah, when we want you to.” Gavin joked, just as expected, Mom lifted one of the books from the desk and used it to smack Gavin hard on the arm.
With that, the call ended, leaving me to wonder what other secrets I’d uncover about my wolf- and myself.

“I knew she was going to get released soon. After all, there was no evidence to confirm if she had truly poisoned the young miss or not.” I paused making an entrance into the kitchen, those words settling in my head.
Could it be what I’m thinking?
“I’m so glad Miss Becca got released. I just wish King Asher could open his eyes to see that he is being manipulated by that werewolf mate of his.”
The fact that they continued speaking clueless of my presence, I could only reason that my smell was still hidden. And yeah, I thanked Neptune for this deformity in moments like this.
“You need not worry,” I said, finally stepping into the kitchen with a defiant look. “This werewolf has no plans of being the Queen of such proud and arrogant species.” They immediately began to adjust, feigning regard.
“Ma’am we didn’t mean to-”

“Yeah of course, you never mean to.” I slammed back at the maids, my eyes blazing with anger. “You think you can just stand there and badmouth someone, and then pretend like nothing’s wrong when I walk in?” I shook my head, disgust etched on my face. “You’re both pathetic.”
The maids exchanged nervous glances, their faces pale. “Ma’am, we—“
I cut them off, my voice cold. “I don’t want to hear it…”
They stood quiet the whole time as I paced about the kitchen, grabbing myself a cup of lavender tea. Once I was out of there, I took a deep breath, trying to calm myself down. This was what I had to live with every day of my stay here and I was already so pissed at the fact that I could do nothing to stop it.
My feet carried me to Asher’s room, where I planned to leave him something I believed he would cherish. I pushed open the door, my eyes scanning the room. It was empty, and I knew Asher wouldn’t be back anytime soon.
As I stepped further in, a brief replay of how we spent countless nights in each other’s arms drifted back to my memory. Those nights used to be everything… imagine spending a cold rainy night nestled in the arms of your mate after a long and hectic day. I loved it for him… I loved it for us.
Not all of those nights were spent together, trust Asher- he is willing to sleep over at the office just to make sure he completes the work before its deadline is surpassed. But within the few nights we spent together, I learnt a lot about King Asher without him even opening his mouth to say a thing. I slowly began to see that all that coldness was a facade and that there was actually more to King Asher than the cold ruthless King he was generally known to be.
But of course, he drove me out like a fallen angel before I got the chance to uncover any more about him.
I reached into my pocket and pulled out a small box. It was a pregnancy test, one that I had been carrying around with me since the morning time when I decided to address the familiar awkwardness I had been feeling for weeks. I was still unsure of how to disclose the news to Asher. I looked at it, a bitter smile spreading across my face.
Once we have this, it will be over between us forever. “You’re my only hope…” I said, rubbing my tummy.
I placed the test on Asher’s bedside table, my heart pounding with anticipation. As I placed the test, I couldn’t help but say a prayer. “Goddess please let this be the last… protect my child and me from danger, be a terror to all who plan to harm us.”
