At the sound of her voice, the newcomer turned around.
He was a man in his late thirties, tall and strong, his rugged frame exuding an air of resilience. His square face was framed by a thick beard, giving him a stern, unapproachable look. Yet, whent his
gaze fell on Karina, his eyes softened with warmth.
“Mr. Lorcan, what brings you here?” Karina’s face lit up with surprise and delight.
Lorcan had no mate and lived alone, spending most of his time in the forest. In her previous life, he had already left the tribe before she ever had the chance to visit him after her reincarnation.
“I just got back and heard that you and Zareth have become mates and are building a house. Thought I’d come lend a hand,” Lorcan said with a kind smile.
As he spoke, he gave Zareth a once–over, nodding in approval. “Good, you’ve come to your senses. From now on, take care of her. If you two run into any trouble, don’t hesitate to come to
me.”
“Zareth is young and full of potential–attentive and caring. Though he’s only a Level–One Beasthuman, his future prospects are bright,” Lorcan added.
Lorcan had been close friends with Karina’s father for many years. After her father disappeared, he had taken Karina under his wing, treating her as if she were his own daughter.
In the past, when Karina had been blindly infatuated with Xelrik, Lorcan had warned her that, despite Xelrik’s impressive facade, he was not a good man.
“Mr. Lorcan, you’ve got it wrong,” Karina said, blinking playfully.
Lorcan raised an eyebrow. “Hmm?”
“Zareth isn’t just a Level–One Beasthuman anymore–he’s advanced to Level Two.”
Lorcan’s expression shifted from surprise to delight before he let out a hearty laugh. “A Level- Two Beasthuman, huh? That’s great. With Zareth by your side, I can finally rest easy.”
“Mr. Lorcan, you have my word. If anyone dares harm her, I’ll protect her with my life,” Zareth said firmly.
Karina took twenty Level–One Beast Crystals, wrapped them in a piece of beast skin, and handed them to Lorcan, Lorcan inspected them and quickly pushed them back. “I can’t take these! You need to keep them!”
For the beasthumans, beast crystals were as valuable as gold was to humans.
Karina folded her arms. “Mr. Lorcan, if you don’t accept them, then I won’t let you help build the house. Besides, if you grow stronger, I’ll have someone to rely on!”

Forget twenty beast ervy if she had to pay with her own life to change his fate, she would.
Besides, Avani had already shown her true colors. Now that her schemes had been exposed, there was no telling what she might do next. If anyone around Karina was vulnerable, she could target them. If Lorean’s strength increased, Karina wouldn’t have to worry as much.
“But-”
“Mr. Lorcan.” Karina interrupted, fluttering her lashes, “if Zareth ever bullies me, you’ll have to stand up for me.”
Before Lorean could respond, Zareth’s brows knitted together, and he immediately objected. “I wouldn’t!”
How could I ever bully Rina?
Lorcan watched the two of them, their affection so obvious, and let out a helpless chuckle. “All right. I’ll hold onto them for you.”
“You’re not just holding onto them–you need to absorb them,” Karina corrected. “Hurry up and

back Level–Three Beast Crystals to absorb!”
Lorcan stilled, blinking in shock. “You… absorbed the beast crystal?”
Females typically couldn’t absorb the power of beast crystals. He clearly remembered that Karina had never awakened any talents.
“Yeah,” she said, grinning. “Zareth figured out a way for us to absorb them together. I’ve awakened my talent now.”
To prove her point, she flicked her fingers, and a streak of purple and red light flashed through the air.
“What’s going on here?” Lorcan’s surprise quickly turned to joy. He glanced at Zareth, waiting for an explanation.
Zareth’s ears burned red. That technique–it was a secret passed down within his clan, a power that could only be shared between mates.
“Anyway,” Karina said, smoothly changing the subject to spare Zareth’s discomfort, “it’s all thanks to Zareth. So, Mr. Lorcan, hurry up and get stronger. It’d be embarrassing if I surpassed you.”
Lorcan laughed heartily. “All right, all right!” He finally accepted the beast crystals, visibly relieved.
In the days that followed, Zareth spent his mornings hunting and his afternoons chopping wood with Lorcan and Draven, working tirelessly to build the house.

only conjure small sparks of lightning and fire. But within days, she had advanced to summoning thick, lightning and fire snakes.
For ten days, they worked nonstop. Finally, the house was complete.
The construction method Karina used was something she had learned in her previous life–it was called a mortise–and–tenon structure.
This type of build made the house not only sturdy but also visually appealing. A layer of resin had been applied to the exterior, protecting it from wind and rain.
“Zareth, you really went all out,” Draven said, running his fingers over the nearly transparent windows. “These crystals might not be that useful, but I bet they cost a fortune.”
In other people’s homes, once the doors were shut, it was pitch dark inside. But here, the rooms were bright and airy.
“Rina doesn’t like the dark,” Zareth said simply, brushing off Draven’s hand and wiping the window clean. “It was just three Level–One Beast Crystals. As long as she likes it, it’s worth it.”
Draven stared at him, dumbfounded. “Man, you’re completely whipped.”
Then, as if remembering something, he lowered his voice, “Hey, why did Karina build four rooms when there’s only two of you?” He counted on his fingers. “One for storage, one for you. two, one for future kids… so what’s the fourth one for?”
His voice dropped even lower. “She’s not still thinking about Xelrik, is she? I heard things aren’t going well between him and Avani.”
The air around Zareth turned icy.
“Rina wouldn’t.” His voice was calm but absolute.
Draven clicked his tongue. “You sure? She was crazy about him before. I’d keep an eye out if I
were you.
Zareth’s expression darkened.
He couldn’t help but wonder if–just if–Rina still had feelings for Xelrik… what would he do?
Meanwhile, Karina was busy cooking.
“Draven, why don’t you stay for dinner? I made something special,” she called.
Thanks to Lorcan and Draven’s help, the house had been finished much faster than expected.
Lorcan had left early to absorb the beast crystals, so only the three of them remained.
Draven’s eyes gleamed. “Oh, sure!” He didn’t even wait for Zareth’s approval before plopping down at the table.

All I wanted was a bite to eat, not to steal his mate–what was with all the fuss?

Zareth had built a wooden table, and the three of them sat in the courtyard, dining together. Noticing that Zareth’s expression didn’t look quite right, Karina set down her bowl and turned her attention toward the two beastmen
“I’m sure you’ve both noticed–there’s an extra room in the house now.”
Zareth’s face darkened, and his grip on the bowl tightened. With a sharp crack, a fissure split across the rim of the bowl.
Cold sweat beaded on Draven’s forehead. I’m doomed! Is Zareth going to take out his anger on me?
“I want to bring my older brother home to live with us,” Karina continued. “His room will be on the west side, while we’ll stay on the cast. We won’t be sharing an entrance, so it won’t interfere
with us.”
Draven was stunned.
It’s for Corvus, not Xelrik?
The tension in the air immediately dissipated.
Karina’s older brother was also his older brother–there was nothing wrong with them living. together.
Karina reached out, sliding ten Level–One Beast Crystals toward Draven.
“Draven, thank you for helping me build the house. I have another favor to ask. Can you go to Briarhide Tribe and bring my brother back? Zareth trusts you, and I don’t feel comfortable sending anyone else.”
